September 11, 200421 yr Hi Jim,I think I am having the same problem as Jaroberts explained a few posts ago. I updated to build 142, and things ran fine for awhile until today. I loaded FS9 in windows mode and set up my flight location, cleared the weather in FSUIPC, then minimized to start up AS2004. Started up AS2004 and it loaded as usual with no problems. Then opened FS9 back up. Weather updated in the sim ok as per usual. Everything runs fine as long as I stay in windows mode. As soon as I try to go to full screen, the screen goes black, and I get the mouse arrow pointing to a flickering hourglass. It will stay like this indefinitely. The sound is still going normally, but nothing else happens. The mouse functions haven't frozen though as I can right click on the Fs9 tab and close FS9 and it will go back to the desk top normally the same as if you exited FS9 after a flight. AS2004 is still running normally and hasn't frozen. I can then click to exit AS2004, and it closes with no problem.I tried running FS9 in Full Screen Mode with FS9 Real World Weather enabled and AS2004 not running, and it works fine. When I run AS2004, I have the Weather theme set to Clear, and Render To Texture is off. I copied the latest FSUIPC 3.3.1.7 to FS9 Modules when I updated to build 142. To try and trouble shoot this I have done the following:Deleted FS9.cfg and let it rebuild a new cfgDeleted FSUIPC.dll, and then re-installed FSUIPC 3.3.1.7Installed Cat 4.9 driversInstalled NForce 4.27 MB driversTurned off SP2 firewall, and anti-virus,None of this has made any difference. My system specs are as follows:AMD Xp2700A7N8X NForce 2 Mother board1 GB (2x512) OCZ Platinum Edition PC3500 EB RamATI 9800 Pro 256 mb video cardAudigy 2 sound cardMaxtor 80 GB HDWinXP Home SP2Hope you can find a solution Jim, because I really don't want to go back to using FS9 default real world weather after seeing how good it is with AS2004. Thanks for your time. Thanks,Bill
September 11, 200421 yr Hi Bill,Try and go back to the 4.8 CATs.And 3rd party clouds installed?Please let us know!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 11, 200421 yr Author Hi Jim,I have Chris Willis's 32 bit clouds installed, and have render to texture off. I went back to the cat 4.8's as suggested, and the same thing still happens. By the way I forgot to mention in my first post, there is no error message on the black screen, just the arrow and flickering hourglass. Thanks,Bill
September 11, 200421 yr Thanks Bill,AS was working and now is not. Is there anything you added that may have caused this? Typically this is a driver issue.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 11, 200421 yr Author Hi Jim,I haven't changed or added anything except for the things I mentioned in my first post after AS stopped working. It was working fine after the last flight yesterday, and then when I went to fly today it started doing this. This is really weird. Thanks,Bill
September 11, 200421 yr Author Hi Jim,Now this is getting strange. I put back the Cat 4.9 drivers, and replaced FSUIPC 3.3.1.7 with FSUIPC 3.3.0 and of course I got the error message that I needed the higher version to run AS. I went back to the FS9 modules folder, deleted FSUIPC 3.3.0, and copied FSUIPC 3.3.1.7 from the AS folder, and put it back into FS9 modules. Then I started up FS9 selected my location, started up AS, switched to full screen, and it worked with no problems. I even changed airports several times in flight, and everything updated and worked well. Then I closed FS9 and AS and tried to load everything up again, and nothing worked. I'm back to the same situation again? This really has me baffled. Thanks,Bill
September 11, 200421 yr Hi This seems to be a render to texture error in FS.when this happens again, ALT+ enter again to switch back to windowed mode, then go to the options page and enable render to texture.Normaly everything will reset and you wil get your screen display back in full screen mode when you then switch.Just remember to go back to option and disable render to tecture again, otherwise it will intefere with AS2004.Hope this helps, works everytime for me.RegardsJannier Regards Jannie Roelofse Flight1 Software Project Manager
September 12, 200421 yr Author Thanks for your reply Jannier. Your method works very well! It solved my problems, and I can fly with AS again in full screen. It would be nice though if Jim can find out what causes it to do this, and get a permanent fix for it. I think you are right, and it is related to the render to texture in FS.Thanks again,Bill
September 12, 200421 yr Hi BillI am glad I could help and it worked for you.CheersJannier Regards Jannie Roelofse Flight1 Software Project Manager
September 12, 200421 yr Hi Bill,This is really a graphics issue and not an AS issue. We know of this because of so many users that install FSW clouds. I think the fix is using the FSW clouds that allows Render to Texture to be turned off with no lock ups and no screen flickering. AS really doesn't touch the graphics engine of FS.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 12, 200421 yr Author Thanks for your efforts on this Jim. You are right this is a graphics issue and not an AS issue. Chris Willis has a few different cloud files, can you tell me the file name of the best one to use with AS? Maybe I'm not using the best one. Thanks again,Bill
September 12, 200421 yr Hi Bill,HiFPSv2. Install the 32 bit sets so Render to Texture can be Off.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 28, 200421 yr Bill,I ran into the same problem.I have found that with no other modification, if I start AS2004 first, then FS9 I will avoid the problem. Now I will look into the solutions mentioned in this forum.Roger Roger See my specs in my profile
