December 15, 200223 yr Commercial Member HI All,A new freeware US Landclass file has been posted at http://www.simviation.com by someone named George Kunningham.Don't bother. It's actually my US National Landclass Project Beta 5. Someone just extracted the .exe file, renamed the BGL, zipped it up, and claimed to be the author. How it found its way onto simviation.com is up for speculation.I've posted a firm request in their forum to have the file removed.Just a heads up in case soemone was going to waste their time and bandwidth downloading it.Incredible.Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.net ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
December 15, 200223 yr Commercial Member How could someone possibly think they'd get away with something that blatent??!! Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
December 16, 200223 yr Consider it the highest form of flattery Justin. Thank You for what has to be one of THE best additions to my simming experience. Even places I don't know look that much better, especially at night. Don't let the ##### get you down ;)Hornit
December 16, 200223 yr Unfortunately it happens all the time on that site. It's pirate heaven over there. However, my experience with the webmaster has been that he will remove the pirate files once you have notified him.How could someone expect to get away with something that blatant? I hate to tell you, but it happens all the time. The worst part is when they have the chutzpah to send you an e-mail back saying your files just crept in there by accident. :-lolSome people really have no shame. And unfortunately, many of our fellow hobbyists simply look the other way and download/use the stolen property regardless. That is a real shame.http://www.fsd-international.com/team/TD_forum_sig.gif
December 16, 200223 yr Let me add my voice to the choir. This file is absolutely outstanding. I may have to get that life-time membership after all!
December 16, 200223 yr By George he sure is very cunning and also ham headed to think he can getaway doing it!!
December 16, 200223 yr It happens all the time everywhere. This weekend someone uploaded a panel here containing Dreamfleet gauges that slipped through the upload monitors. After all given the volume of stuff that is uploaded every day on the major sites, keeping out the pirated stuff is mainly a matter of trust and self-policing by the end users.Sadly you are true in saying that most of those users look the other way (especially in case of freeware), but it is of course also possible they don't know the original author and think it is indeed genuine.
December 16, 200223 yr Justin: Unable to get your support link to work so thought it best to post here.I d/l and installed Beta 5 and I have been getting the following error:cache directory error!cashed file f:program filesmicrosoft gamesfs2002scenedbworldtexture missing.Restart Flight Simulator (would not crash, could go on flying)Noticed more on takeoff at SFO 10L, less than a minute after t.oDeleted a couple of add-on sceneries, same problem, deleted the Beta 5 and now everything is normal. Have there been any other complaints about this or am I just a victim of a cantankerous computer? :-))I am on your mailing list if you would care to contact my via my email.Bobg425
December 17, 200223 yr Hi Justin. Thanks for posting that heads-up.I'm stumped. Why would anyone rip your work, then give it away, for free, and try to claim it's their file? When you give it away freely to the community in the first place? How demented. There's a VERY strange psychology at work there. This isn't just a thief, but someone who needs some therapy.-----------------Your work is always 'top shelf', Justin, and your beta US landclass gift is incredible!Dick
December 17, 200223 yr Author Commercial Member HI Dick,Nooooooooooooo idea, there, Dick. I was dumbfounded when I downloaded the file and loaded it into the tmfviewer and saw the all-too-familiar image. Kinda scratched my head a bit. And, thanks for the kind words. They are appreciated!JustinFSG ________________ Justin - Toposim http://www.toposim.net
