June 18, 200520 yr Hi Andy,How far away from the station were you? Remember that a station report has an exact influence of 2 miles. After that, a blending of stations is used.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 18, 200520 yr Could that parameter generate those kind of clouds when CAVOK is in the metar? I'm far from a weather expert but thought that parameter only generated small random clouds here and there in the sky?
June 18, 200520 yr Ah true, those are very widespread. I have no idea how little or much the coverage is supposed to be with that setting.cB
June 18, 200520 yr Author JimI was on the ground at OTBD. The weather all the way across Saudi Arabia was CAVOK with only the odd bunch of clouds displayed. As I approached OTBD the clouds, to my dismay, thickened and I had quite a display. From memory I hit the clouds 28nm from OTBD.LeglegleNoJust opened up ASV to check settings, loaded FS and linked through WideFS. June 18, 200520 yr Andy,I have an hour+ to fly this AAS flight. I'll jump over to OTBD when I am done!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 19, 200520 yr Hi All,I don't know what to tell you all! I went to OTBD had the same METAR and didn't see a cloud in sight. Slewed around, paused, flew, nothing but clear skies. Moved a bit more, flew a landing into OTBD and nothing again. Not sure what happened on your flight!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 19, 200520 yr Author The one I had the problem with was last night (my time. This morning - not a cloud.I'll monitor it - maybe (probably) I had something wrong.Does my .cfg look OK?ThanksAndy b Andy Brockbank
June 19, 200520 yr Hi Andy,Yes settings look good!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 20, 200520 yr well I have had the same problem several times:e.g. EHAM this evening (have a look the picture. The same this morning in EDDS.
June 20, 200520 yr Hi,Seen the same problem myself a number of times at ESSA. Tried to check the 'Disable CAVOK Cloud Generation' and kept the 'Disable Upper Layer Generation' unchecked and that made things much better and far more realistic according to the METAR report.Seems like something might be wrong with the CAVOK Cloud Generation option?
June 20, 200520 yr Hi All,Possibly. I'll put it on my list for Damian.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
June 20, 200520 yr Cavok doesn't mean there are no clouds at all...the definition of CAVOK is:"Ceiling And Visibility OK": No CB, no cloud with base less than 5000ft or below the highest minimum sector altitude, whichever is greater & visibility 10km or more & no weather of 'significance' i.e. DZ, RA, SN, SG, PL, IC, GR, GS, FG, BR, SA, DU, HZ, FU, VA, PO, SQ, FC, DS, SS ... and variants. Therefore, if the clouds are higher than 5000ft, then technically its CAVOK!!
