CTD Help Me Please---I wanna fly again!!!!

Featured Replies

It's been about a week since I've been able to fly...somebody please help me. :) I have FS9 and use the Level D 767 aircraft. I recently purchased the new ASV application. Since that time I have had constant CTD (Crash to Desktop) problems. The new ASV seems to have caused (no blame intended, just trying to diagnose and fix!) that ends up in CTD each time I try to load a flight using ASV. Until I loaded ASV I had no problems--running the LVLD 767 (and many other planes too) for literally hundreds of hours. Another comment. The new ASV requires the latest FSUIPC.dll which I downloaded and installed. I wonder if this new version could be causing problems??? In various other CTD posts I see concerns about cloud textures--I used to run ActiveSky 4.5 with Chris Willis' clouds with no problems whatsoever. I still have AS4.5 on my machine but I am not using it. If I uninstall ASV and then install Chris Willis' lower resolution clouds might that work? I still wonder about the FSUIPC update. Could that be the culprit.I have confidence that my machine P IV 3.1 GHz, 1 gig Ram, NVidia GForce 6800 GT is running OK. I think it's some kind of software confusion going on. ANYONE WITH THOUGHTS PLEASE ADVISE. IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN STUCK IN A NO-FLY CTD SITUATION YOU CAN SYMPATHIZE WITH MY SITUATION!!! Thank you!Steve

Hi,ASV include clouds and lower resolution clouds 256x256, 64x64, just enable mips one time on AE interface, they will mips all clouds. To be sure you are using asv clouds, you must use the asv option, ICS or Random at startup, or manually using AE interface submit button. You did not able to use Fs2004 from 1 weeks now, even without ASV running you have CTD?Ps:I saw many user Level D with asv without any CTD, this is not a Level D with asv issue.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Jim,Thanks for your quick reply. I tried running FS9 with AS2004.5 and get the same CTD. I think I'm having issues with cloud textures for some reason. Not sure why but I'm thinking that's the culprit. I tried Chris' mip'ing idea to no avail. I also tried flipping my Render to Texture. No go. I don't recall what version of Chris' clouds I used before. It's been a year+ since I downloaded them from AVSIM. My problem now is that I'm not sure how to "line up" all the right cloud textures. There seem to be many more with ASV than before (maybe that's incorrect but seems like a lot.) If I try to download lower resolution cloud textures they number of files I get isn't enough to replace all that is in there from the ASV. Any guidance in this area will help.I think I'll uninstall LVLD 767 first. Then I'll see where that leads. If I'm still having issues I'll uninstall and reinstall ASV. If that doesn't work I'll going to be stuck in concrete! I'll keep you posted--any further ideas you have will be listened to closely! Thanks,Steve

Hi, "I tried running FS9 with AS2004.5 and get the same CTD."The amount of texture in the memory did not increase with asv only more variation, you only need to install one cirrus clouds and one 3d clouds texture set. or set random or ics with your clouds resolution of your choice, 512x512, 256x256 etc.Since you have used my clouds before, you probably use hifpsv2? if you have used these reduced clouds and now you are not able to use ASV clouds, there can be a chance about a problem with the system management ressource or something start to broken. It's is not normal 32 bits 512x512, 256x256 clouds can't run on a system and DXT 256x256 64x64 works without ctd, This is related to the systemvideo card, ram,Fan, motherboard driver etc.-Try to remove FSUIPC and test-Maybe it's another things, Related to Afcad, Scenery, or x addons.ThanksChris WillisHiFi Simulation Software Team Developerhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg

Just a shot in the dark, but do you load from a save situation?? Are you getting a weather.dll error report?I had the same problem once upon a time with a weather.dll error in the error report after FS9 shut down. It ended up that my weather.dll was just fine. It ended up being a corrupt *.WX file in the C:Documents and Settings(user name)My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files folder. I just deleted all the *.WX files and the crashes stopped.Try it, it may work. You'll only loose your saved weather.

An update...I uninstalled ASV and it's patch. I was able to fly all night (I slept while my LVLD 767 flew nearly 8 hours without failure.) I used FS9's own weather engine. When I tried to load AS2004.5 I got an error message about certain files not found. (I need to go back and get the exact files missing.)Tonight I will try and reinstall ASV and the patch and see if that works. At least I'm airborne again. Thanks to everyone for your help!Steve

Chris, in my haste to remedy all that's wrong, I removed the AS2004 base program from my machine. I then realized that my ASV appears to be an upgrade, requiring that I still have AS2004 installed. I have all the maintenance and patches for 2004 in my download folder but I don't have the core product. I'll email you my original order number (which I still have). Can you either give me some guidance on how to get the old AS2004 so I can reinstall OR give me a link to the complete ASV package? Many, many thanks!Steve

Jim (and Chris),Awesome customer service. I'll go check for this file and report back. Thanks much!Steve

>Hi Steve,>>The Full install of ASV is included in your ASV Upgrade. Look>on your HD for a C:ASV_Full Install folder.>Jim,I looked in my Downloads folder and see:asv-ae512-a1 (512 clouds part 1)asv-ae512-a2 (512 clouds part 2)asv-ae512-a3 (512 clouds part 3)ASV-UPGRADE- In my program files folder--FS9/Modules/ASV I see no Full Install file. - In my root FS9 folder no Full Install.Help me figure out what the heck I'm missing. :)

Jim, honest. It's just not there. I tried to do a print screen shot to show you.

Forgot to mention that I also did a file search of my C hard drive for ASV_Full Install and got no results.Steve
