August 15, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hello all,At approximately 16:00 Pacific Time today we experienced a double server outage. The problem has been resolved and we apologize to our users for the down time.We have been actively upgrading the system over the past 3 weeks to prevent problems (exactly like this) and obviously we are unsatisfied with the way the system attempted to "correct" itself in this event. This recovery and redundancy system is not yet perfect and still not considered fully operational but please be confident in knowing that this is our top priority and we have spent a lot of time in this department and will continue to do so until such problems are a thing of the past. This new event was much different than other problems we experienced before (we are still analyzing logs to find out exactly what happened) but rest assured this kind of problem will be directly addressed and we will do whatever we can to prevent it in the future.Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue improving server availability and performance.Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
August 15, 200520 yr Hi, Damian:Thanks for the update. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out as you guys update the system. This does, though, raise the idea again that came up by someone when the last extended outage happened.Would it be reasonably (emphasis here) possible to have an option in setup to link to an alternative server temporarily? If there are specific file characteristics that would be incompatible from other sources, then that would obviously eliminate that possibility. But if, for example, clicking on the VATSIM weather option would actually link to the VATSIM server, rather than just a re-routed copy of their METAR on your server, our service could be restored. Same thing could be done to allow linking to a governmental server. This is just an idea that might reduce the stress level for you guys when something like this happens. I suspect that YOUR stress level is a lot higher than mine over this incident. :-)Regards,Wilson
