September 19, 200520 yr Hi,I have ASV with update 2 installed, but it keeps causing, as it did with the initial release, a sudden rudder and ailerons deflection on final, even if the weather conditions are not bad. It happens very often and always at about 200 feet when landing. It does not occur if I don't use ASV. Is this a known problem? Thank you.James James Goggi
September 19, 200520 yr Hi,See if it is a Wake Turbulence event. Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
September 19, 200520 yr Author So I should check if another traffic landed before me? Ok, I'll focus my attention on that and will report...Thanks, Jim.James James Goggi
September 19, 200520 yr Hi,Even better yet: when this starts to happen, pause FS, Alt/Tab to ASV and see if it is reporting a Wake Turb. Event.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
September 22, 200520 yr I have the same problem. It has occured 3 times over the last couple of months. At around 300ft on a stable approach, the aircraft suddenly goes into a very steep dive, which is unrecoverable, as I am unable to wind the trim in time.It happened to night flying into ESMS in CAVOK conditions with a light wind (03kts).I had been monitoring my TCAS all the way in, and their was nothing leaving or arriving at the airport ahead of me, so I do not believe it could be wake turbulance (also, I was flying a VC10 which is a heavy aircraft, and would need a very, very big aircraft close ahead to cause such an event)Next time it happens, I will pause and check ASV for a wake event, but as I say, there were no other planes around!
September 23, 200520 yr Hi,Can you try with SU3?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
September 23, 200520 yr Commercial Member Hi,If the flight controls (actually trim) move, then this is certainly the AS wake turbulence effect. We simulate random rolling and pitching motions using aileron/elevator trim. After about 5 seconds the trim should re-center but if autopilot is engaged you need to be very quick to save it.As to why this is triggering with no apparent aircraft ahead of you, FSUIPC might be providing non-standard AI traffic information, either delayed or in an unexpected format. I would verify your settings, making sure this is all default (to start with anyhow). There are also some oddities in certain areas (closer to the poles, beyond about +/- 70 deg) where directional and distance calculations can get a bit messed up, and possibly trigger the effect in a hyper-sensitive fashion. Not sure what the cause is here, but please do let us know of any new information/results/findings... Thanks or the feedback!Best, Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
September 23, 200520 yr As I said, this has only happened 3 times in 2 months. The first time in LOWS (Salzburg), then in EDDG and now in ESMS.On all occasions it has been a sudden downward motion (enough to leave the aircraft buried nose first in the ground at even though it I had 300ft or so to recover)on short final - below 500ft.As I was busy trying to save it, I did not notice if the controls deflected, but will press pause swiftly next time.I also only have the wake effects on standard setting, and am flying very heavy metal (you would need to be following pretty close behind another heavy to be effected this badly).I have installed the update (marvelous piece of work ;-)) and will see if it happens again.Keep up the good workNeil
September 23, 200520 yr Thanks Neil!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 2, 200520 yr Just had it happen again (running 364).A very stable approach into Vagar (EKVG) at around 50 ft I got a sudden nose down deflection. Before I could react and press pause, I was burried in the ground.I did have wake effects on (but not increased). A BAe146 landed 10 miles ahead of me, which I was monitoring on TCAS (I was flying a VC10 - a heavy aircraft). Although I got the crash message, I straight away tabbed into ASV.It just said "a crash has been detected".There was no mention of wake turbulance.I have now turned off all wake effects and will monitor to see if this happens again.
October 2, 200520 yr Hi,Yes, please do. The crash message over wrote the possible WT message.By chance did you generate a thermal point, possibly by mistake? See if you have a thermals.txt file in your ASV folder.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Sales and Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_dev_team.jpg http://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_proud_supporter.jpg
October 4, 200520 yr Hi Ive also noticed the same sudden pitch down when on approach. In a king air twice at gatwick and once at jfk and i too believe it might be wake effect. Im running activesky 4.5. Ive turned the wake effect off to see if that helps. One thing about the JFK approach, it was for 4L the only other jet i could see was one on the ground that had taxied to the head of the runway (just pulled up) waiting for runway clearance. I believe the wake came from that taxying jet.GA
