Permanent snowstorm in South Tx?

Featured Replies

Hi again,I seem to have a permanent snowstorm NW of San Antonio Tx. Although other conditions seem to change, there seems to be a persistant snowstorm in FS2004 for several days now. Living in this area, I can be sure that there are no snow conditions. Here is the closest reporting station when I am in my plane and see snow and thick clouds and sometimes lightning (I think this is what you need):KERV 181720Z 181818 19018G25KT P6SM SKC FM0200 17009KT P6SM SKC FM1600 18016KT P6SM SKC RMK AUTO GENERATED RMK AUTO GENERATEDIt says auto generated, so does that mean that there was a hole in that stations data or there is never data for that station. Am I even asking the right question? It is even visible from KSAT (which is clear skies, verified by looking out my window). Is there anyway to make the military stop using it's weather control sattelite in my area? :)Kidding aside, it is very out of place for this area of the country and is very visible form quite a distance. Thanks.

I can verify this problem. It seems the station is reporting the following in ASv6 sometimes.KERV 182025Z RMK AO2 TSNO PWINOThis is what causes the problem. Searches I have done indicate no metar over the last couple of days from this station, so I dont know where this is coming from. For some reason ASv6 reads this wrong.TSNO = thunderstorm information not availablePWINO = precipitation sensor not available.I am sure Damian will find a solution to this problem asap.JT

Hi,Yes the METAR contains no data at all, which is throwing off the RMK process step (normally RMK items are ignored).I have modified the process to skip such TSNO or PWINO statements in such cases. SU2 RC1 is pending availability in the next 24 hours...This however will still yield problematic weather in this region since the METAR is bad (weather is essentially being called standard/ISA). I can remove the station from the server fetch if it has closed, etc.. Maybe it will come back on? Many times these data issues are temporary. Maybe they are upgrading equipment? We should re-evaluate in a couple days...Best,

Flying today with SU2 RC2, I was getting snow at FL140 from a relatively clear sky approaching KOMN (Soccoro, NM) and on the route to KABQ. The current wx snapshot shows:KOMN: KONM::*::*::230,019,16.6/230,019,10.6/230,019,07.4/235,042,-07.8/250,067,-21.1/255,091,-31.5/254,109,-45.9/254,104,-53.1/258,096,-55.7andKABQ::KABQ 191956Z 25006KT 10SM BKN095 11/M10 A2977 RMK AO2 SLP048 VIRGA DSNT SW T01111100::KABQ 191737Z 191818 22011KT P6SM SCT080 BKN140 FM1900 24015KT P6SM BKN080 TEMPO 2202 26018G28KT FM0200 31012KT P6SM VCSH SCT060 FM0600 28006KT P6SM SCT060 FM1200 33006KT P6SM SCT050::239,015,14.9/239,015,08.9/238,017,05.3/236,038,-10.1/245,061,-22.9/251,076,-35.4/250,101,-47.4/252,102,-52.1/257,090,-53.1current surface weather in KONM is 65 degrees and clear, KABQ is showing 55 degrees and mostly cloudy.I can pretty well read the METARS, but not the digit strings following...The Southwest seems to be a bit odd.Regards,DJNB: Note that asterisks colon combos show up as smilies on the forum... :*:*

Hi,The ABQ report is decoding fine even with the RMK string, and does not provide precip. However, what about the other stations around the area? A quick look at the US precip chart shows Arizona and New Mexico have received a bit of snow over the last few hours..Best,

I would believe snow in the air at ABQ, although the local weather station is reporting temps well above freezing (the VIRGA notation might indicate snow at altitude). I don't for a minute believe the snow over Soccoro with a reported (at the time of flight) local temperature of over 60 degrees F. A look at locales in the general area shows no snow this afternoon, although snow showers are possible in the area tonight. I wonder if this is a TAF processing artifact; just ahead of its time? Interesting. DJ :-cool

Hi all,It appears KERV is still out of commission. If anyone is aware of the status of this station, if it will come back online, etc, please let us know. Otherwise this station is pending deletion in approximately 1 week. Thanks!

It would appear that KERV is reporting again:KERV 251825Z AUTO 08007KT 10SM CLR 16/M03 A3048 RMK AO2
