does SU4 need more cpu power then SU3?

Featured Replies

Hi,First of all, I must say that I'm a very happy user of your outstanding product!I'm running Squawkbox3 (a program for multi-player on-line flying) and ASV6 on a mini-itx system with a 533MHz cpu (fan less). All went fine till I upgraded from SU3 to SU4...What is happening:If SU4 is 'synthesizing the weather' (don't remember the correct words by heart, but it looks like a new phase to me) it graps the cpu for quite some time. This causes Squawkbox3 to loose contact with the VATSIM server and it will disconnect...Is my observation correct? Does SU 4 temporarily need more cpu power? If so could that be (optionally) temporised so other applications running on the same cpu are not blocked...?Thanks,Best Regards,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Nico,You can try and disable process throttling in the Options window (Lower right hand side). Most probably that will solve your problem.Regards,Hans

Hi, Too be more precise: the phase where this happens is "... Synthesizing local Weather data ..."and I use build 482Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png

Hi Nico,Damian may want to know about this. Please drop him a line at [email protected] and describe this. Thanks!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Nico, you are correct, during both Synthesizing Local Data and Updating FS graphics CPU usage spikes to 100% without FS even active. Considering FS runs at 100% CPU the entire time two apps competing for 100% cpu usage is going to bog down any machine... Would running AS on another computer via wideFS solve this problem? In other words, how much of the end weather result that you see in FS comes from "processing" the weather vs "depicting" the weather?Damon

Hi Damon,The processing portion is a short burst of CPU utilization. Many use WideFS for the extra screen space and the freeing of memory.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

Hi,I'm already running ASV on a second PC...I use WideFS to off load applications from the FS9 PC, like Squawkbox3, Fuel Loader, ASV6, FSBuild2.2 and ServInfo. This is to improve the frame rates in the sim (and it works fine), not for extra screen space because that can be achieved also by extra video cards in the FS9 PC.Cheers,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl1704.png
