Real World weather - Looks Vs feel.

Featured Replies

OK.. I almost always use the Activesky to get me the real world weather. And yes.. it seems to bring the data and paints the screen like the real world. When there is a rainfall and cloudy.. and I see that on the screen.But...But... I fly like its a perfect weather.... no gusty wind, no turbulance ..none of those rough conditions that goes with it.Is this something that I have not setup on my end (as a config). or is that a limitation of some kind?Manny

Hi Manny,For wind gusts: that has pretty much gone out with wind smoothing through FSUIPC. When FS04 first came out sssooooo many FS04 users voiced their concerns about how wind gusts were nothing more than wind direction changes and how it messed with their auto-pilot/overspeeds. So people went to work and smoothed out the changes and this is what we are left with. Also, FS04 is highly data driven and gusts are not part of any winds aloft data. On the ground gusts are possible because the data can be obtained and gusts do appear. During the latest hurricane period you could sit and "feel" the wind gusts on the runway interact with your plane. Now, turbulance is a little different. We can suggest that Turbulence Frequency be set to 100% and both VAS values set to 100%. If this is still not enough for your tastes, you can open your FS9.cfg file and start adjusting the TurbulenceScale value. Default is 1.0 and one user suggested 3.5. I tried this and wow, your plane will never be still. I thought this was too much and went back to 1.0. You may find a middle value would fit your needs!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter

I don't know if you use it but Active Camera's head latency really improves the feel of turbulence in vc mode. IMO, if you are in wing view (using vc view), and you are using an aircraft that has wing flex, the effect can be quite convincing.

Hey Jim, I've mentioned this once before, but do you think it's possible that in a future update we could have the option of disabling the wind smoothing below a certain altitude so that we could again have gusts at the surface as in the real world? Thanks for all that you do for our hobby!

Hi Jeff,I think you should. Load the Hurricane weather theme globaly and fly a cross wind landing and see.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
