While using ASv6 in FS9, I flew to denver (KDEN) just to see if area had snow as been reported in the news. There was no indication of snow anywhere in the area. What could have possibly been wrong?Wilbert

Hi,Thanks for writing. In FS, the ground textures are not determined by the weather, but by the date. So if KDEN textures are not Winter textures yet, then Fall textures will still be shown.Happy Holidays,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Thanks for responding.I thought FS9 automatically texturize the scenery by the seasons. Can I manually select winter textures?By the way, I checked this out in FSX and everything appeared OK.And what should I set in the "Default Weather File Folder" in the Options of ASv6 - FSXModules or FS9Modules since the program works for both FSX & FS9Thanks,Wilbert

Hi,The textures are decided by the seasons, but not all on the same day, in every location. There is a slow gradual change from north to south and then again from south to north in the Spring. Can you manually select season textures? Only by changing the date.FSX has a little more accurate texture calander.Point this to your AS folder.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

Are you presuming his system date is incorrect? If it is correct, what then?Jim Harnes

Hi All,No, I am assuming that his date is correct. Again, just because it is after Dec. 22 that doesn't mean that Winter textures show up all over the Northern Hemisphere all at once. And no, current weather cannot trigger a texture change.I'll give you all an example: I just went to KDEN in FS04 and yes, Fall textures are still there, even after all the snow this week. Heck, it is even snowing there right now, I am watching the football game there! So now I move to KDTW, Detroit, my home airport. It hasn't snowed here for weeks and the grass is as green as it was in October. Guess what FS04 shows? Yep, pure white Winter textures, with not a hint of green in sight, even on the golf courses. What now? Wait until the Winter textures move South, change the month to Jan or Feb in FS, to force the hard Winter textures, or use FSX which seems to have a better texture calendar.Happy Holidays,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

More Questions...I'm using ASv6 and GE Pro II. I thought the ground textures of GE Pro are selected by ASv6 and if so why there is no snow indications. Does ASv6 controll only the sky graphics? Could you shed some light on this line of thinking? This is all releated to FS9 of course.Wilbert

Wilbert

Hi,Because textures are chosen by sky conditions, not by other METAR codes such as snow. Again, we are not influencing the seasonal textures, just the way they look.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/

>Are you presuming his system date is incorrect? If it is>correct, what then?>>Jim HarnesJim I've done some work with FSX seasons and the SDK. Here's some info:The problem is that snow cover is determined by a seasons.bgl file. The seasons.bgl file is compiled using data from climatological maps (snow cover maps). The climate data shows that ON AVERAGE, Denver will not have snow cover on December 26 of any given year. Therefore, for much of Dec. you get soft winter textures for Denver, which is the browns. In FSX the seasons data is of higher resolution than previous versions...it is based on 1 month intervals...so there are 12 seasonal changes in the FSX world--and this affects snow cover. There is one other thing that affects snow cover in FSX--and that is the presence of snow falling wx conditions. It seems that under certain wx conditions, FS will paint the snow on the ground, if snow is actually falling at a particular area. But this code seems obscure and a little tweaky. I noticed FS2004 doing this too.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Jim:Have you ever noticed, in either FS2002, FS2004 or FSX, that sometimes, the sim will paint snow on the ground, if it is snowing in the sim?I don't know what code does this, but it seems to be modelled into the sim.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Hi Mace,Yep, especially in Oct./Nov. when we get that surprise snow here in Detroit. Then the next time FS is started, everything is back to the Fall textures!Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://www.fseconomy.com/
