November 14, 200817 yr Hello guys,I hae managed to get my winds to not spike back and forth. I have FSUIPC Wx setting ON, Enhanced Coverage and smoothing ON. For the past 2 hours I should be having about 80 knots of tail wind. But for that same time I have been having 35 knots headwinds. For example, as I'm flying now ASX reports 278@104. My FMC reports winds at 130 @ 46. It has been travelling between 100 and 130 for the past two hours without ever turning to tail. It was like this on my previous flight also.Any idea where I should start troubleshooting this? It wreaks havoc on my planning.Regards,Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777
November 14, 200817 yr Author Just finished my Milan - Pudong flight. Flight plan time was 0955 with 40 knots of average tail wind. Actual flight time 1038. Used up all my route reserve fuel plus a bit more. Weather at Pudong was Ok thanks God.So in all 43 minutes were added due to the wrong wind presentation.Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777
November 14, 200817 yr Hi,We'll see what we can do. What are the winds being reported by the Shift/Z display in FSX? What wind smoothing options do you have On in ASX?Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/
November 16, 200817 yr Author Jim,I'm about to fly Kennedy - Milan right now. If it pops up I'll take some screenies and log as much as possible.Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777

My actual winds are displayed in two-fold. The first is the FS wind, the second is the wind displayed by my FMS (I guess one's true one's magnetic?)As you see, while it's in the approximate direction, any one station will have large fluctuations. Look at EGJB for example. At some point I actually have headwind. So while I'm supposed to have a constant wind out of 317 degrees, I get a general sweeping around of the wind, giving almost 0 net wind on that leg. Consequentely I'm like 15 minutes behind flight plan again.Regards,Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777
November 17, 200817 yr Hi,Damian had a post about this not too long ago. What you are seeing is the result of the SimConnect issue and winds aloft. This is especially true when flying in areas with few wind stations. We have spent 100's of hours working on this and will continue to do so in the future. But right now this is where we are at.For the shifts you can adjust through FSUIPC and that might help your timing. Also make sure you are processing a plan and it looks like you are. With that have Enhanced Route Coverage On in ASX.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

November 18, 200817 yr >Hello guys,>>I hae managed to get my winds to not spike back and forth. I>have FSUIPC Wx setting ON, Enhanced Coverage and smoothing ON.>For the past 2 hours I should be having about 80 knots of tail>wind.Xander, could you pls list the specific boxes you ticked and values you set in FSUIPC? Do you have Wind Smoothing ticked on the Winds page? What are the 2 values? Do you suppress in FSUIPC any of the 3: turbulence, gusts, variance? Any other FSUIPC settings you can recommend? Not that I can help you with your problem, but since you mentioned you managed to get the winds not to spike I got really interested and thought you could share your positive findings. Also, if you fly in VATSIM, what about wind directions in the game and VATSIM's ATC, do you ever get in a conflict. Many thanks,Dirk.
November 18, 200817 yr Hi Dirk,I can't because I use the free version of FSUIPC.Thanks,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/banners/hifi-community-sigbanner.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/

November 19, 200817 yr Author Dirk,The way I have just flown, I have followed Jim's advice and turned Enhanced Route Coverage back to ON. I turned almost everything OFF in ASX because I was having trouble with wind spikes. So I turned off both smoothing options in ASX and left all smoothing over to FSUIPC. This seemed to have cured about 90% of the spikes, BUT now I was having problems with winds coming from every which way, throwing my planning way off. You can read this in my above post.Jim advised me that it is a known issue being worked on which relates to SimConnect and advised me also to turn Enhanced Route coverage back ON.I did this on my flight from EHAM to TNCB this morning and low and behold, my flightplan time agreed a la minute with my actual times. Pretty impressive! I did not monitor ASX vs FS wind this time, but having the flight plan time within 2 minutes of actual time after 8 hours of flight must mean I did something good.So here is what I have now:1. Turn ON ASX FIRST !2. Plan you flight and create a flight plan.3. Import flight plan into ASX and process.4. Open FSXFSUIPC settings:-Winds are 3 seconds for every knot of change-Smooth only when airborne-Weather read interval = 2-Allow change to FS weather = OFF-Smooth pressure = ON (20) (Clouds Etc.)-Smooth Temperature = ON (100) (Clouds Etc.)ASX settings:-Create virtual stations = ON-Enhanced route coverage = ON-Wind data smoothing = OFF-Wind Shift Stabilization = OFFHope it helps,Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777

In the winds smoothing I understand you set 0 in the first box and 3 in the second, or vice-versa: in the first box you set 3 and in the second you set 0?I'm surprised you're not using 'Suppress these wind effects' turbulence, gusts, variance - any reason for that?Dirk.
November 20, 200817 yr Author In FSUIPC as soon as you select to change winds 1 knots for every ... seconds, the upper window reverts to zero and you can enter you value in the lower. I set mine to three.I don't really know why not, guess I've never gone far enough to experiment with those as I am now pretty comfortable with what I have.Xander Xander Koote All round aviation geek 1st Officer Boeing 777
