To all,I have just found out something else now. I flying Montreal - Amsterdam and for the last hour my winds were 350 @ 30 i.s.o. 290 @ 30. I turned windshift control back to off. But nothing changed. I then entered the FSX menu and as soon as I leave the menu, BAM ! big wind change. Now it's at 060 @ 30. So I enter the weather menu an d leave again, BAM wind 300 @ 30. And so on. Every time I enter and leave an FSX menu I get big wind changes.....It may be something worth checking out.Xander

>Dirk,>>The way I have just flown, I have followed Jim's advice and>turned Enhanced Route Coverage back to ON. I turned almost>everything OFF in ASX because I was having trouble with wind>spikes. So I turned off both smoothing options in ASX and left>all smoothing over to FSUIPC. This seemed to have cured about>90% of the spikes, BUT now I was having problems with winds>coming from every which way, throwing my planning way off. You>can read this in my above post.>Jim advised me that it is a known issue being worked on which>relates to SimConnect and advised me also to turn Enhanced>Route coverage back ON.>I did this on my flight from EHAM to TNCB this morning and low>and behold, my flightplan time agreed a la minute with my>actual times. Pretty impressive! I did not monitor ASX vs FS>wind this time, but having the flight plan time within 2>minutes of actual time after 8 hours of flight must mean I did>something good.>>So here is what I have now:>>1. Turn ON ASX FIRST !>2. Plan you flight and create a flight plan.>3. Import flight plan into ASX and process.>4. Open FSX>>FSUIPC settings:>>-Winds are 3 seconds for every knot of change>-Smooth only when airborne>-Weather read interval = 2>-Allow change to FS weather = OFF>-Smooth pressure = ON (20) (Clouds Etc.)>-Smooth Temperature = ON (100) (Clouds Etc.)>>ASX settings:>-Create virtual stations = ON>-Enhanced route coverage = ON>-Wind data smoothing = OFF>-Wind Shift Stabilization = OFF>>Hope it helps,>>Xander>>Hello All, I use these setting with the exception of smooth pressure in FSUIPC, when I use this setting my aircraft is on a constant up down pitch never capturing the programed altitude. I still get the occaisional wind spike causing my airspeed to drop but the winds change fairly smoothly.TanksAndy

Yes, Andy. Xander by his post opened a new perspective in ASX/FSX/FSUIPC weather for me. Terrible shifts of wind that occured regularly are gone for good. Smooth pressure may become the final touch.Thanks,Dirk.

Hi,I have been experiencing this as well. I took a screenshot (it's huge so linking:)http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~stefan/badwinds.pngAs you can see, the winds in FSX weren't even close to what was being reported. It remained that way for some time.I have enhanced route coverage and wind smoothing selected, and this was with having imported a plan into ASX. The FSUIPC settings I have selected are limit wind changes to 1 every 2 seconds, and Allow Changes to FS Own Weather is selected. If you need any more info, I'd be happy to provide it. This is off a very fresh windows/ASX install (2 days ago) and there's nothing other than FS on this hard drive. This was also using a default plane to rule out as much as I could.-stefan

Hi Stefan,Yes, I see what you mean.Next flight, turn off all wind smoothing in ASX and just let FSUIPC handle things. Then lets see what FSX reports. Thanks,

Should I still import the plan into ASX?-stefan

Hi,Yes sir! Same with Virtual Stations and Enhanced Route Coverage. Thanks!

Ok. I'll try a flight sometime tomorrow using the same weather as today and see what happens. Thanks,-stefan

Hi all,While Jim continues to troubleshoot this with you, I'd like to make a few notes....FSX has inherent problems with wind direction, and often fails to depict the appropriate values as defined. This is mainly due to known interpolation issues in FSX. Things that can help in ASX include virtual stations and extended route coverage, as well as route smoothing. We have verified that in all cases with FSX when the wind is depicting incorrectly, the wind data values assigned by ASX are correct. We have gone so far as creating 15x15nm weather stations around the entire globe and setting each and every station to the exact same wind value, at all altitudes. The improper depiction of direciton persists and appears random. In FS9 we had the ability do directly control winds (ASv6.5) and properly depict all ambient wind at all times per our code, bypassing FS depiction. This ability was eliminated with FSX, Simconnect and even FSUIPC v4.We hope that soon enough simconnect, FSUIPC or FSX itself will enable us to control ambient wind again and we can finally get smooth, properly depicted winds at all times. Its worth it to note that ASA, soon to be released, includes new enhancements that improve things further.Best,
