Help please, no pictures in manual....

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,Just got my Briefing Time and WOW!!!!!! ALso, it came only a few days after I ordered it. Many thanks to the museum volunteers who made this possible. Truly a great package - can't say enough about it.Suprisingly the fps and smoothness of the VC is good even with my lower end system (Dell PIII, 1 gig, 512mb ram, GeForce 2 mx400 32 mb). I usually keep my display sliders to the max.The manual is also extremely good and has loads of pictures and illustrations. Unfortunately, on my system I find that some of the pictures (of various instrument panels etc.) are not being displayed when I view the manual. What I see is a box of the outline where the picture should be, but inside the box is empty except for the letter x at the top left corner of the box. Has anyone else had this problem and how can I fix it?Bill and team: Many thanks for producing a most fantastic aircraft package for fs2002 - can't wait for the new R4D. On the other hand I can wait as I'll be spending numerious hours on Briefing Time. Needless to say I'll purchase the R4D when it's available. Thanks,Howard

Uh oh!Thought we caught all those "wounded manual" ones As best I can figure out, some program or process toward the end of the final preparation for production capitalized all the graphic names in the manual. This didn't cause any problems, but it also truncated them all to eight characters, which means every one that had a longer name went missing in the manual. It also changed a hyphen to an underscore. I have 200 CD's here which we are holding until we decide what to do with them. Looks like I did not catch them all. I HOPE this is a rarity. I can suggest two fixes. You can download the manual from the library and use that, or, if you don't want to do the 17MB DL, you can change the names back to the original. Following is a list of the shortened and correct names for the missing pictures:SHORT NAMES (BAD) .................... Greetings Bill!Since I had already downloaded, read and printed the manual, I didn't check the one on my CD. But after reading this thread I did, and lo and behold: it's a "wounded" one!I wonder...: could this be related to me not having the full version (the one without further denomination) of Briefing Time in my little FS menu? I mean: ONE little bit or byte in the wrong place can do the oddest things!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Hi Jaap,I don't understand how it is possible to not have the full version there. The others should not even work without it.Does your aircraft menu look like this?...http://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/acmenu.jpgHave you tried re-installing the package? If this truly is a defective installation on the disc (and I pray it's some isolated aberation) I want to send you a new disc and ask you to send that one back to me so I can figure out what is wrong with it.The "wounded manual" is a completely seperate issue. Hi Bill and Jaap,Thanks for the fix Bill, I'll download the manual as you suggested. From what I've seen the manual is extremely helpfull with descriptions of cockpit views and aircraft operation.I had the same problem as Japp describes where the "full" version with all vc views did not show up on the aircraft menu. I thought it may have something to do with the trial version, so I just deleted the trial version from my aircraft folder and now it's ok. I now have the full version on the menu and once again, it's fantastic.Howard

Hi Bill!I dunno how to make/post a screenshot, but what I have in my arcraft menu is: Briefing Time LightBriefing Time MediumBriefing Time Trial. There simply is no Briefing Time "plain"...Indeed I was considerng doing a reinstall, I'll do that tonight and holler back in the morning. BTW, did you read my reply to you in the other thread? There's some info there that might (or might not...) be useful in future when designing VC's in connection with three-dimensional glasses. It's almost impossible to get a decently focused intrument panel and landscape, without having the yoke being completely out of focus and BADLY ghosted. Only solution is to turn the stereo effect down very much, which kind of negates the whole idea... It's kinda like this: the instrument panel is best seen/focussed when stereo'd exactly ON the plane (= depth) of the screen itself. Nice details like the reflector sight, the iron sight and knobs and odds and ends, then very nicely pop out of the screen towards you, like a couple of inches. The yoke then, of course, pops out of the screen far too much, like six or seven inches. If you focus on it in a crosseyed way the bloody thing nearly jumps right into your face (grin)! Then uncross eyes and focus back on panel or outside "over the nose", and the then firmly out of focus yoke simply becomes a bunch of annoying (double or "ghosted") shapes that are perceived "flat" in an otherwise EXTREMELY beautiful and quite spectacular STEREO virtual cockpit. Anyway, I'll go reinstall BT, in order to try solve the mysterious absence of the fully-fledged Briefing Time. It's quite possible that I did something stupid, the first time. I'll keep you posted. And again: Briefing Time is GREAT! An absolute masterpiece! Thanks to the whole Team for making such a marvelous add-on!Be well!Jaap Verduijn.

Ah, after I posted this, I saw that Howard has solved one part of the problem. Thanks mate!Jaap Verduijn.

I deleted the trial version, and lo and behold: "Briefing Time" now appears on the menu! I'm gonna hit the sack now, but in the morning I will thoroughly and elatedly explore the full version!Good night all.Jaap Verduijn.

I think Howard has discovered something important...If the Trial Version is installed before the full version, the latter does not show up. This is the normal situation, naturally, so that is not good. :-( But if the Trial Version is installed after the full, as I did in testing it, all four will co-exist in the directory. I'm going to test that theory here, and if it is indeed the case, I will post a new thread, then change the readme in the Trial Version. Bill,I also have a 'wounded animal' manual CD version. I have the DL manual however and all illustrations show up in that one.My CD set arrived Friday, 2/28/2003.Additionally, my CD contained your 'Important' note regarding the touchdown screech and taxi rumble sounds issue. The 'Sound' file was OK and not titled 'Sounds' as your note suggested.Difficult to find fault with you and the other volunteers as you have produced a GREAT sim for us and much needed funds for MAAM, and I know you guys are 'burnin' your candles at both ends'. Just don't add additional flame to the MIDDLE part of those candles, OK???We're here to play the sim and enjoy your products, and I guess a bit of 'beta' leftovers are tolerable! The video CD is fabulous!
