Request for a new repaint for the DC-3

Featured Replies

Hi all. Can anyone provide me with a repaint of the R4D by MAAM? I would be only too grateful to make another donation to MAAM for this repaint. The plane I would like is ZS-GPL, flown by Springbok Flying Safaris in South Africa. I have flown in this plane several times, and have sat in the cockpit several times while ground runs are being done. It is in excellent flying condition, doing tours and sunset flips. Their website is http://www.springbokflyingsafaris.com.Many pictures are available of this plane:http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.sear...inct_entry=truehttp://www.jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?regsearch=ZS-GPLZS-GPL is a 1945 C-47.Please let me know if a repaint is possible, when I could expect it, and what I can contribute for the effort. It would be nice if I could pay MAAM for the repaint, but I'd also be grateful and would pay a private person to do it.Many thanks, Ian Nel

That's a pretty looking aircraft, Ian, thanks for posting.I personally am buried in other projects right now (including, in time, a paint for East African Airways) but you may well get some interest presently from others. Some good painters lurk about in this forum! You may have also seen my paint of "Klapperkop" for SAA, of which real world aircraft I am sure you will be aware.Long live the DC-3!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumonthttp://www.swiremariners.com/newlogo.jpg

Thanks for a glance of that great looking DC-3. Being a vet of the early 50's, I am also a fan of the C-47 etc. I hoop[e someone accepts your offer.Ed WorkmanUSA

Hi Mark, thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm familiar with ZS-BXF, Klapperkop, and your repaint is excellent. You may be aware that it crashed last December - incorrect fuel tank selection - but they are busy repairing it. I don't see it though, because it lives at Johannesburg International airport, and I can't get behind the scenes there. ZS-GPL, my favourite, lives at Rand airport, and I see it all the time - hence my desire to get the repaint. How about it MAAM - can't I make another donation and help to get old 50819 back into the air - how are the engines and the restoration coming on, by the way? I'm sure there are repainters in the MAAM team that can help?Regards, Ian

Hi all. I seem to have some Christmas budget left over - any offers for this repaint?Regards, Ian

Hi Ian, Only a thought..... a prolific lady with the re-paint skill is "Heather Sherman" (I believe that's the correct spelling:-) )on the Bush Flying Unlimited Forum of this site.I've no connection with her other than seeing many of her paint jobs... I know she has done re paints of the MAAM DC3 previously, and very good they are also! She may still be busy with her own web site but you could try.Regards Blue

That's a good idea, Blue. If you have read Heather's readme's you will also know that she has a legitimate need for some money. Check out her repaints on our Free Enhancements page. http://www.maam.org/flightsim/enhance/enhance.htmOur own master painter, Mark Beaumont is hors de combat, at the moment. If you can take a real tale of woe, check out this post over at DC-3 Airways. http://www.dcascreenshots.net/dcaforum/viewtopic.php?t=686Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM - Rambow, Visser, Banting, Young, Womack, Sodja & Beaumonthttp://www.fssupport.com/maam_sim/maamsim_logo.gif

I understand about Mark...not a very pleasant year-end for him. Thanks for your pointer to Heather, I've sent her an email referring her to this topic, and I'm hoping we can make a deal.Regards to allIan

Hello BillI hope you are doing well. I am stunned after reading of Mark's plight. I went through something all too similar a few years back and know all too well how he must be feeling.Despite my attempts, I am still unable to log in over at that forum to offer my condolences. Will you please pass word on to Mark that if there's absolutely anything I can do, just ask.If nothing else, I have gigs worth of files archived on my end and am able to burn both CD's or DVD discs. If I can help him replace anything in that regard, I am more than willing.Ian, I received your email and am not ignoring you, just thinking it over before replying. I really want to help you here but have you ever heard the addage, "When you're up to your butt in alligators, it's hard to remember that your objective is to drain the swamp."Will be emailing you shortly.Regards and best wishes to all.Heather

Good news, it seems that Heather can do the job for me. Thanks Heather!!! I'll request Heather to make the plane available to everyone once completed, after all, it is the nicest DC-3 in the world...Regards all, Ian

Hi Blue. I meant to thank you for your suggestion regarding Heather Sherman, her work really is excellent, and I am in contact with her. It looks promising.Regards, Ian

Ian, You're welcome. I agree Heather is some woman.... and some painter too. I have admired her work since I discovered the Grumman Duck for 2002. She made that look great. Regards Blue

Hi Ian,I did a repaint last year, but never released it as it is not 100% accurate. This is my first repaint attempt so I'm actually a bit embarrased to add screenshots to a forum of expert repainters! The map in the cabin view does pop-up in other places due to the way the textures are mapped-I should look at repositioning or removing them.regardsPaul PS: forgot to mention that I used Mark Beaumont's templatehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103988.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103989.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103990.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103995.jpg

Hi Paul, your repaint looks really nice - you have nothing to be embarressed about. I have however committed to Heather, and her repaint will be available soon I expect - I have asked her to send it to MAAM and AVSIM after we have completed our deal. An idea would be for you and Heather to perhaps pool your ideas for this repaint - but that's totally up to you two.Good work...Ian

I agree with Ian Paul; your repaint looks just fine. I wouldn't have hesitated to upload it.You certainly have what it takes to repaint, don't let the work of others daunt you.Best wishesHeather
