September 12, 200718 yr I flew the B25J in FS 2004. Now, in FSX, everthing works great except I get a CTR-X Fuel Low message. The fuel gauges never come off the Full marks. I read the docs which said there is not fuel tank selctor on the B25J. I've read the B25 posts and it seems like I may be the only one with this problem. I've reloaded from the MAAM CD and run the FSX conversion patch twice. Any ideas? Thanks Jim Popswilson
September 14, 200718 yr Commercial Member Hi Jim. Sorry about the delay answering, but I'm away from home and do not have FSX on my laptop. We have not received any other reports of this bottomless tank syndrome. Perhaps other FSX BT users can investigate and report here.Bill RambowMAAM-SIM http://www.fssupport.com/maam/hgrsm_blkani.gif Bill Rambow MAAM-SIM www.maam.org
September 18, 200718 yr Hi Jim, hi Bill,Bill I just reported in another thread that my gauge and fuel problem has been solved due to your kind advise. After having installed both planes (B 25 and DC 3) I flew them for over 35 minutes each without a glitch. I then switched off my computer and when I later decided to fly MAAM again, both planes seemed to remember because suddenly I had the same problems Jim reported. After flying for some 5 minutes with all tanks full, engines drop to idle and you have to abort the flight, in my case switching to a non MAAM plane and continue the flight. If I at a later stage during the flight return to a MAAM plane, the problem persists. Bernd
September 20, 200718 yr Hello Bill and Bernd;Let me give a bit more information re: fuel tank problem.I made a flight that started with all fuel tanks full. I flew unti I received the Ctrl-X "Add Fuel" message/ I clicked on the Menu item Fuel and Payload and found that fuel had only been drawn from th center tank. All the other tanks still showed 100%.The panel placard states that the rear tank flows into the the front tank. I don't know how fuel is drawn from the Aux tanks. Still, all of the tanks show the needles pegged on Full. The "Change Fuel" menu (Fuel and Payload) list the tanks as:Left AuxLeft TankCenter TankRight TankRight AuxThe gauges are labeled:Left AuxFront TankRear TankRight AuxI've never been nervy enough to open and change the .cfg file. Could the problem perhaps be somewhere there?By experimenting, I have pulled the needles off the full mark by changing the percentages in the tank column. Still, the Ctrl-X message appears when the center tank gets to 50%.This glitch is not a big deal to me as I do enjoy flying the B25J (and the R4D-6)and I may be the only one experiencing this problem.Thanks.Jim "POPS" Wilson"POPS" is Parachutist Over Phorty Society
September 22, 200718 yr Hi Jim,It seems that you have uncovered a bug in the fuel system initialization. When starting up in VC mode the fuel tank selection code fails. I'm amazed this has not been mentioned before! There are two solutions for now.You can use 2 strokes of the "A" key to toggle to 2D mode and back to VC mode at each startup.Or a more permanent solution is to add this line to the [VCockpit01] section of the panel.cfg file.gauge11=MAAM_B25!Fuel_Front, 0,0,1,1This must be the last entry in the section right below gauge10=MAAM_B25!....Regarding your fuel feed question, all the tanks in the model gravity feed from Center -> Aux -> Rear -> Front. It's not quite that simple but it is all described in the "Fuel Management" section of the manual.Fred
September 23, 200718 yr Fred, Bernd1151, and Bill; Thanks for the help.Fred, as you directed, I added the line, gauge11=MAAM_B25!Fuel_Front, 0,0,1,1 to the panel.cfg file, immediately following gauge10 in the [VCockpit01] section of the file.I have just finished two test flights and the gauges are reading properly.Bernd, I've never had the problem you've encountered with both engines going to idle after a short flight time.Bill, I very much appreciate the effort you and the MAAM team put in to provide us with such quality sim airplanes to fly.Jim
September 27, 200718 yr Thank you guys for your very kind assistance addressing a problem that obviously very few have so far encountered. When I'm home later I'll try to change my panel config accordingly to see what happens. There is another interesting phenomenon: when I start FSX using the default Ultralight and only change later into using one of the MAAM planes, I encounter no fuel issue anymore. Now, can anyone make something out of this? Unfortunately I'm not an expert when it comes to computers, but it's quite funny, isn't it.Bernd
September 27, 200718 yr Hi guys,I just changed the panel cfg file as directed, but to no avail unfortunately. Both engines still drop to idle after around 5 minutes, although all tanks are still full.So if ever I want to fly MAAM, I have to get started with the default Ultralite first I guess. Not too convenient, but at least something of a remedy :-))Ciao,Bernd
July 9, 200916 yr I was having this problem in FS9. I flew a test flight from my home airport RYY to Robins AFB and shut down fine. The next day I flew a flight from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal and flew up The Slot to Gizo and 80 miles out, I was getting low fuel messages. As soon as I landed I ran out of fuel and the engines would not restart and yet my gauges read full. Can I even expect this problem in FSX once I install both the DC3 (I haven't run out of fuel in the DC3 yet) and B-25 there? Will the above line added to the FS9 planes .cfg file fix this? If not, is there another way to fix this? Thanks for your help.Mike Shannon Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
July 10, 200916 yr The cfg edit should fix the problem Mike.Fuel is always drawn from the Center tank (quantity in this tank is not shown on the gauges) until it is empty, at which time the tanks are automatically switched to ALL. The problem is that the switch can fail when flying from the VC, allowing you to run out of fuel while the other tanks are full. This is corrected with the cfg file edit. Hope that works for youFred
July 10, 200916 yr I have added the line to the panel.cfg file and will try it out shortly. Thanks for your help Fred. Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
July 10, 200916 yr Thanks for your help Fred. I just flew from Vella Lavella to Gonaili on New Britian and ran both the center tank and the aux tanks dry without running out of fuel in the front tank.Mike Supporter GhostRecon.net | AGgReSsion WhiteKnight77's Place Mike Shannon
