August 21, 200421 yr Well, I think that my traffic was only @ 20% and no PIA (what's PIA?...). Yes, I'm using DX9c. I'm also using the newest Catalyst drivers - the 4.8s
August 21, 200421 yr Opps, sorry that's PAI - Project AI aircrafthttp://www.projectai.com/It's a hit on the frames, but it adds alot of aircraft to the airports.I think I'm using the newest Catalyst driver. I don't believe I unistalled the old one before I put the new one in. Does this affect anything?HuggsKittiex:)~
August 21, 200421 yr well, i tried it but looking out from a side view makes it chug along so i guess i'll just stay with 1024x768. it seems ok with that. i tried real weather at KORD in the kingair 350 and it wasn't bad. alot better than with the 2.4 processor. if push comes to shove i'll drop down to 800x600. thanks for the help. william
August 21, 200421 yr Notta prob and congrats William. :) A guy told me that the GPS is a big FPS hit in VC and whatnot - he reccommended taking it out of the panel.cfg file (I dunno how to do it, but I think i'll leave it so I don't screw somethin up!!! :D ).
September 12, 200421 yr >With the CPU heat... Mine's kinda porked too! :D The mobo I>have came with this uGuru utility - has all sorts of cool>stuff. Anyway, one of them shows the CPU temp. Depending on>what mood my puter is in, I can have anywhere from 32c to 60c>at idle. Same here !!!!!!!!!!Weird temp problems. Very unreliable. I am running Abit AV8 with AMD 3500+. But I went to abit-usa forums and lo and behold - pages upon pages of folks #### at Abit about unrealistic temperatures. They even run an semi-official poll about it. But I see kittie runs on a Asus mobo and have similar temp problems.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
September 12, 200421 yr Hi All,I am running this system that you can see the specs for in my signature, I run it with ALL the sliders set to full right, except the water detail set to low, and mip at 6, anti aliasing OFF in the sim, but ON in the display card settings, my two desktops are both set at 1600x1200,on my 22" monitors and so is FS9, with the frames locked at 35 of which my average is hitting 32 constantly, check my post reply to another guy about the temps etc.cheers Steve,http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...g_id=8969&page=
September 13, 200421 yr There is no 3 gig AMD cpu and until recently no 2,4 amd cpu either? Are you referring to 2400+ and 3000+ Bartons? If so you may consider gettin an A64 instead with a new mainboard. Often better and cheaper in the long run to take bigger performance jumps then just go little step by step :) About res you run at hardly effects your framerates. Not very much anyway so I am happily flying along at 1600x1200 at the moment. 4x aa and 8x aniso on my sig. Guess it depends a lot on your video card though of course. But yeah I think you would be able to do so since it make less performance impact from what it do in just about every other game except LOMAC perhaps.AI traffic is what I find killing the performance the most so the faster the CPU the merrier :)As for 754 or 939? If you want to keep your new system for a while there is some really kickass 754 Clawhammers out there and kickass 754 mainboards like DFI:s new one. I don
September 17, 200421 yr Maybe I'm just so used to it that I don't notice. What does MIP Mapping do?>>>I guess it basically varies the detail level of the BMP's you see.The higher the mip mapping, the sharper and more detailed the textures look. But to me, I don't like it all the way up. I actually prefer mip mapping set to the middle range. I think "4", if I remember right. To me, the high MM settings look too grainy for a better lack of description. To me, the smoother look of the middle setting looks better to me. I guess the grainyness I describe is the same as what some call shimmering. I see that too, but to me the med setting looks more realistic as it's much smoother looking, although a bit more blurred at certain angles. MK Mark Keith
September 17, 200421 yr In terms of brute force improvement, I think a better video card would do the most for you. A 2.4 is not a total slouch, and if you are having to run 800x600, that points to you having weak video. If you got something like a 9800pro, I think you would see a large improvement in general framerate, and the level of res you could run. You would be able to use 1200x+ with better rates than you are seeing now with 800x600. But a cpu can help. AI is all CPU, except for when you actually see the planes. If general AI bogs you down, a faster cpu can help. But a better video will too, if you are bogging down graphics wise at large airports due to AI. If I had to bet cashflow, I'd bet new video would help a good bit more than a new CPU, but both are even better...:) But, if you only are going to change one, I'd go a new video card. I'm running a P4 2.4 and a cheapy FX-5200 card. I've tested overclocking to nearly 3.2 ghz with little improvement in video frame rate. My card is the bottleneck. And the overall flyability increase was not huge at all. But a fancy new video card would make this box a whole new machine for fs. I think a 2.4 cpu is quite ok, if you have a hot rod video card. Due to the new cards coming out, I expect to see further price drops on say the 9800pro, which has been out a good while. When they get cheaper, which I expect before too long, I might get one myself. It would be much better than my fx-5200. MK Mark Keith
September 17, 200421 yr Well in my case not much of a performance difference between 1280 to 1600 in res for me it
September 18, 200421 yr > I'm running>a P4 2.4 and a cheapy FX-5200 card. ... I might get one>myself. It would be much better than my fx-5200. MKJust make sure you have enough power from your PS, 450W?And true power as I had problems with a generic PS.allen
