Video card question

Featured Replies

I know this belongs in a different forum area but this is where all the people are. I have a Gforce4 4800ti card, however the fan bearings are going out and its driving me crazy with all the noise. I'm thinking about getting another 128mb card or higher but can't afford too much. I really like the performance from my current, but loud card. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.B Bjorkman CFII

People have their favorites, nVIDIA and ATI, but take a look at the following benchmark for FS2004 done by Tom's Hardwarehttp://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/gra..._charts-09.htmlThe cards he mentions are rather pricey, but if you look down the list you'll see something more affordable.By the way, I'm in the same boat. I have the FX5200 and it's just not performing well for me. I'm thinking about getting a new video card (don't know which one yet) and a new sound card.

If you're happy with the 4800ti it's not a big job to replace the fan and it's not an expensive item. One example is here: http://www.svc.com/vaicproprvga.html . A Google search should provide other options.Doug

Hello, Recently I replaced my old TI4600 with a FX5900XT and I was very pleased with the result, a bit of a performance increase, better visual quality and the price was right. It is my intention to build a new machine with a top of the line video card when I get back from Germany so the FX5900 was just to "hold me over". I was not expecting much from this card in terms of being better than my old card but I was pleasantly surprised. It is a more stable card too, I have had far fewer little problems than with the TI4600. I wish you luck on your search!Take care,Philip OlsonI'm the luckiest man in the world, my girl friend has a yoke and rudder pedals! Hey, thanks alot the fans on the way.B Bjorkman CFII

Well buying a new fan to put into a Ti-4800 is really to much work for to little. I would just take the failing fan for a perfect valid reason to upgrade :D9800 PRO 128 mb would do great but do cost some money. Otherwise you can get some really good priced 9700:s and 9800:s on the used market if you don

The card being used was quite satifactory..... a new fan therefore solved the problem. What could be more simple. If you're satisfied with what you have then why change. Sometimes I think we lose sight of what we want all this hardware/software for and upgrade for the sake of it.Just a thought. Regards Blue
