December 5, 200421 yr Oh my god. I almost lost an opportunity to crap on STEAM!!As for Half Life 2 all it needs is a powerful CPU video card hardly matter. People are running fine at medium on a mere P 4 2,66 and Geforce 4 mx. The crappiest video card ever made ;)But Steam you will get frustrated if you haven

Like flush it run for 5 minutes flush it and so on?Now you are praising dell you will of course get flamed ;)Only Dell people fly FS 2004 default btw so no wonder ;)
December 5, 200421 yr Hi Denny,No flushing required here!"Now as to the Dell remark, Hate to say it but I've only seen 2posts saying they could max out DEFAULT FS9 and both owned a DELL" ...LOL, Ooooh no, you ain't getting away with that one!My setup is near enough maxed and it sure isn't a Dell. Furthermore, I can run quite happily with AAx6 and AFx16 (quality at present but soon to be forced soon, hopefully with driver update). However, I will admit that the sim can in no way now be regarded as being in its default clothing. I do manage to use the default.xml file and autogen is maxed out. It all depends on where you choose to fly and what the weather is like. I have the latest Scotflight scenery installed and it is pretty busy in places like Edinburgh/ Edinburgh City. Performance does drop under these circumstances, but still remains acceptable. By 'performance' I am not referring to framerates but smoothness of operation. I get no stuttering - those days are long gone thankfully.I owe a great deal to FS-GS for pointing me in the right direction. Many others could do worse instead of fretting all the time about their hardware installations.Regards,MikeP4 2.4GHz (400FSB), 1Gig PC2100 DDR Crucial, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB (Omega 2.5.90), SB Audigy (5.12.0001.0443), Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 17" TFT LCD 20ms Monitor (1280x1024x32), Gigabyte GA-8IRXP MoBo, Ultra-Quiet PSU 400W, WinXP Home (SP2), DirectX 9.0c, AGP Aperture = 128MB
December 6, 200421 yr Hi Greg, wow! Where to start? Your assessment (honestly, minus the bit about my 'knowledge'!) is very well put and exactly what I think too. Nevertheless, thanks a lot for your very kind words. If I may try a wrap-up attempt as well; it's the joint knowledge, efforts and friendly individuals which makes the Avsim forums and FS a kind of its own and very special. I deerly hope these words are strong enough to reflect my gratitude and appreciation! You mentioned a few details about your upgrade path, I hope you don't mind if I add a few thoughts? Anyway, when you get your AMD64 chassis, perhaps make sure you get a combination, which is compatible with the '1T-Command' switch, signifying, enabling your hardware choices to operate in a stable manner in this mode. Ideally, this first requires knowing the exact stepping of your CPU. This then leads to compatible RAM modules(**) to finally close-in on mainboards with the appropriate (functioning?) bios options. The '1T-Command' gives the system some 8-10% (and more) extra juice. I don't know whether DFIs 'do' this? Nevertheless, all 'serious' mainboards should have it. If you are already aware, please neglect. Still a bit flattered, Greg, and to set the 'knowledge record' straight once and for all (hehe), one of my credos is: The more one knows, the more one knows, how much one doesn't know... This once originated from the 'concept': The more of the world you've seen, the more you realize how much you haven't seen... Concluding, I'm probably a lot like you (and many others), l
