February 16, 200521 yr Hello!I went from ASUS P4C800, 3.4Ghz (OC from 3.0), Radeon 9700, 400Mhz RAM and IDE HDDs to:ASUS P5AD2-E Premium3.91Ghz (OC from 3.4Ghz)PowerColor Radeon X-850 XT running at PE speeds (540/590)Samsung DDR2-533 1024MB RAMSeagate S-ATA 160 HDDS (2x)Performance increase is INCREDIBLE! Just for a test sake, I created a situation before upgrade, with clouds and rain, to see how much will it go up. I loaded situation 2-3 times before upgrade, I'd say FPS were between 25-28. After upgrade, 40-45. And not only FPS went up, also in complex areas, with lots of autogen, clouds, airports where I know that before I used to get 10-15 fps, now is not going below 25. Radeons simply RULE!Anyway, questions and comments are welcome!
February 16, 200521 yr I have to share your enthusiasm. Our systems are similar although I have RAID 0 drives.I don't know if it is the cpu, the front side bus, the RAID 0 configuration or the x850 but I can confirm that this system totally rocks!I lock at 30 only to obtain any benefits of fps locking (but I'm not sure there are any)and it REALLY locks...I mean I get between 29.8-30.I have thrown all the sliders as far right as I care to and can fly in virtually any kind of weather/cloud density (default 3D clouds)and the system just screems along.NO stutters...smooth as glass. Ridiculously expensive though.Best,Jim
February 16, 200521 yr Good to hear my computer perform utterly bad at the moment something weird is happening to it lol
February 16, 200521 yr >Ridiculously expensive though.>Best,>JimI couldn't agree more... We built whole new PC here at home, and all in all was around 2500 euro. RIDICULOUS!CPU: 270MOBO: 230GPU: 470RAM: 260HDDs: 190-----------1420 ONLY for vital components!
February 17, 200521 yr ...which is why you stay just below the top-end in terms of performance:-Went with X800XT instead of X800XT-PE, 6800U etc.-Athlon64 3500+ instead of equal P4 (3.6 GHz?) or one of the ripoff "FX" or "EE" CPUs-Kept my old DDR RAM, harddrives, soundcard, optical drive etc.About 1/2 the cost, 90% of the performance - 5600 3DMarks in '05, 24k in 2001, no stutters in FS9. I'm a happy camper and what's better, I can still afford to buy food and pay the bills :-lol -
