Now HERE (I believe) is a phenomenal LCD monitor ...

I went to COMPUSA today and looked at 30 to 40 LCD and CRT monitors from 17" to 23" in size. The CRTs was boring run-of-the-mill stuff, and the LCDs mostly unappealing, some real cheap others really costly The 21" ViewSonic LCD was fairly huge, but totally uninspiring in image and a let down to me. The Samsung 19" had the best definition. But all the LCD monitors without exception looked DULL in terms of screen display. Oh, sorry, the HP Pavilion LCDs were good, nearly forgot those. On turning around to leave in disappointment, suddenly I saw this SONY LCD. It blew me away. It was like a jewel, crystal clear, as clear as my 21" CRT Trinitron and glossy as anything. I've never seen such a crystal clear image on an LCD. The panel had a special finish just like the dark clear treated glass of the TRINITRON. Deep liquid black. It was strange and delightful.Check out the spex:http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP...._Displays#specsComments welcome.JS

I was considering purchasing a LCD monitor, and then Dell introduced a 24" widescreen at only $1,200 (about half the price of competing products).Imagine if FS2006 has widescreen support ... 24" of screen would be pretty immersive. THe problem is what kind of machine would you need to be able to run at its native resolution (1900xsomething)?I think I am going to hold off for a while, since cheaper production and price-wars are going to continue to bring down the prices of LCD's.

FS9 has widescreen support and I am running at 1920x1200x32 with zero problems and I even have a 2nd monitor for gauges and stuff at 1024x768x32 running from the same card (Nvidia 6800GT). I have tuned down the AA to 2xQ for fps which actually looks better than 4x at 1600x100x32. The only downside is that the monitor will only run at 75Hz at this res but this i good enough for me. I can absolutely positively recommend to go for a widescreen monitor. Especially CRTs are very inexpensive right now as everyone is going for LCDs.Alex

That 24" widescreen by DELL looks like a killer, I do agree. It's gonna revolutionize activities such as FS. In another year, it should be down to around $799.JS

Dell uses Sony CRT monitors so perhaps LCD as well?Anyway when I think of monitor quality ever since my Sony Trinitron days and my moms Sony television I have always been a Sony guy :(. Though their equipment is really expensive though generally for a reason ;)

My brother bought one recently and loves it. 12ms response time. I also have a very nice 21" top o the line CRT and am VERY happy with it. It costs almost 3x what the Sony LCD you saw costs. I am hoping my CRT will last until Sony comes out with an XBRITE type display, but at 1600 x 1200, and with the same low resp time, but with smaller pixel pitch. If money is not too much of an object, you might consider this wide screen that boasts an excellent resp time of 16ms, plus considerably better pixel pitch:Apple M9178LLA Silver 23" Cinema HD LCD Display (23", 1920x1200, .258mm, DVI, PC/Mac - SKU: M9178LLA)Anyway, the Sony is a great screen for $599.
