February 26, 200521 yr Has anybody got the 6600GT in FS2004? If so, is it amazing? (Please say Yes, you love it. I don't want to spend $400-500 for a high end video card for FS9).Thanks!JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.

February 26, 200521 yr Even though i have the 8600XT, i will say, for about 60 more $$, i wish i had the 6600GT. I have heard from several people that i have been in contact with, that they can max out settings or run near max and lock at 24. Must be a good card. If you want to go for the best, head for the X800 series. I know some one will argue, but i have looked at benchmarks on fs2004. The 6800 does run faster than the x800, but the higher you turn the settings, the better it runs. I think at around 1600X res and with AA on, it passed the 6800 and locked at 45 or 48. something like that. if i can find the link, ill post it.So basicly, with both cards, you will get max settings, but on display and hardware, such as res, AA, etc etc, the X800 will surpass the 6800. February 26, 200521 yr The 3 R's of gaming are: Resolution, resolution and resolution. On the Ati side of life, a 9600pro does fine up to 1024x, the 9800pro does (relatively) fine upto 1280x and the X800 excels at 1600x. Really, it's as simple as that. The display adapter isn't called display adapter for nothing... Operating a X800XT with a 17 inch CRT makes no sense at all i.e. The equation is simple; just think display (and thus resolution) first. This will almost automatically lead to the appropriate display adapter. Which brand, Ati or Nvidia, depends mainly on the kind of software you want to operate apart from FS. Afaik, i.e. 3D-Glasses or TrackIR, require Nvidia display adapters. Hope this adds to considerations, good luck and kind regards Jaap PS: If anybody knows similar 'line' for Geforces, please post?
February 26, 200521 yr Par,Just a suggestion to perhaps fix your stuttering problem in FS. Make sure that you minimise any web pages containing java graphics applets with animated images. I discovered this when I had my 9800 and it still applies to my 6800.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 27, 200521 yr Well, I just wanted to point out it's necessary to research software compatibility a little bit if you're looking into purchasing expensive display adapters. Please excuse the inprecision and thanks for correcting me, P
February 27, 200521 yr I upgraded from a 5900XT to a BFG 6600GT/OC (AGP) a few months back, and am very happy with the results... :)I'm able to now run at 1280x1024 with 4x AA/8x AF, FS9 locked at 35fps and maintain that rate during most of the flight. It only really drops around heavily used airports; Heathrow, Brussels International, CDG, etc...AI traffic (Project AI) is at 75%, and most display sliders are at 3/4 to max. CPU is AMD Athlon 3000+ (Barton), with 1.5gb DDR PC2700 RAM. The nForce sound system built into the Abit motherboard gives lovely surround-sound through digital output without any discernable impact. So, all-in-all, if you don't have a small fortune to spend, a 6600GT is a great card :)
February 27, 200521 yr I've never killed a CPU either, but I certainly have tried :-lol Prime95 probably a good CPU test, but it would be hard to differentiate a fail in this test between CPU and motherboard. You could isolate RAM by running one stick at a time.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
