March 7, 200521 yr Hi There,I need to upgrade my PC from Win 2000 Pro to Win XP. Are there any issues with this? I have my Fsim9 and everything on it. Can I upgrade without formating and stuff (from scratch)? This way...I don't have to install Flight sim and everything I have. Or am I dreaming? :)Manny.PS: Wasn't sure if this is a hardware forum topic or not.... Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
March 7, 200521 yr Having never done what you're proposing I can't say with any certainty what your results will be but, IMHO you would be much better off in the long run backing everything up and then doing a wipe and clean re-install. Just make an accurate software inventory and a list of important settings that you'll want to retain. No telling what shape your 2K install is in but like all versions of windows, they bloat (and get stupid) over time. But seeing as how you've stated you "need" to upgrade, that tells me there's already something not quite right in which case an inplace upgrade might just compound the problem. You can always try it with the understanding that it might not go that well and then fall back on the clean install if you're not happy. Some of the file paths are different in XP so some packages that are for XP only might get confused if they see a winnt directory and such. I know it's not fun and exciting but that would be my advice. Jay EklundCAT IV Senior Captain KDENhttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/812321/764.png Jay EKlund UVA/GCVA Pile-it

I hev ta say, yer better orf keepin' dat Win2000 an' fixin' it up a leetle. :D
March 8, 200521 yr when XP was first released and many people went the "upgrade" route, this caused no end of problems. I know i was one of those who upgraded, in the ned i bit the bullit and after backing up reformated the drive in NFTS and did a fresh install booting from the CD. this way has proved very effective and i have been successfully running FS9 since it was released. a few times i have had to replace HDs and even a motherboard, but have kept the same install of FS9 moving it around drives overwriting fresh installs.
