March 29, 200521 yr Hi community,I am wanting to replace the video card in my computer, but I am a little limited at the moment by budget, and was hoping toget an unbiased opinion from this forum.I am running a reasonable quality system, and I'm sure that thevideo card is my bottleneck at the moment, just not sure which way to turn on the new card.My System:Athlon XP Barton Core, 25001Gb PC-333 DDR RAM60Gb SATA DriveOn-Board AC-97 SoundWindows 2000 Service Pack4GeForce 4 Ti-4200 with 128 MbDirect X ver 9.0cMy options:GeForce FX-6600 with 128Mb VRAM (AGP)ATI Radeon 9600XT with 256Mb VRAM (AGP)All help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.Kindest regards,Andrew.
March 29, 200521 yr not sure the vid card is the bottleneck, you could be suffering with your sound and CPU aswell. that said of those 2 cards the 6600 would be the best bet (but try and get the GT version), the 9600 is hardly any any better than your old G4 ti.
March 29, 200521 yr Maybe you should scan the market for a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. I got my SAPPHIRE for under $200. I've got advices from many people sayng that the "Pro" tag means a lot more than the 256MB Memory. The card performs amazingly for the price, but I found it hard to set up. If you follow the advises in my last post, you might end up with less struggle than me ;)Here it is: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=6979&mode=fullGood luck!Eagle
April 1, 200521 yr If I were you, I would keep the Ti4200 and invest in a faster processor first..mind you, I am biased... P4-2.8, 768 Meg TAM, Ti4200-128. Bert
