April 2, 200521 yr After reading horror story after horror story from people who have installed SP2 and then had FS9 or 9.1 go into a tail spin, I thought I'd get some input here. My system has been running error free for a few months now but I need to update my Soundblaster Audugy2 drivers. The latest EAX drivers require sp2 . Also one other question, AA & AF on or off?My System:ASUS P4P800 MainboardNvidia 6800GT GPUP4 2.8 GHZ CPUSoundblaster Audigy 2 2GB PC2700 DDR MEMThanks for any help you can give.:-)
April 2, 200521 yr No problems here after installing SP2 (and then the (9.1 update). I did have some problems with the drivers for my Turtle Beach card after installing SP2... they wouldn't install until I removed SP2, installed the drivers, and then reinstalled SP2. Had something to do with the installer for the drivers.Greg
April 2, 200521 yr Author Does it have to be done in that order, SP2 then FS9.1? Also, emperssive looking system!
April 2, 200521 yr "Does it have to be done in that order, SP2 then FS9.1?"Nope. I did it that way because SP2 came out and was soon followed by the 9.1 update. Lots of folks do it the other way around.Would be a good idea to make sure all the updates for SP1 are installed on your system before installing SP2. Couldn't hurt to be thorough."Also, emperssive looking system!"Thanks. It's going away soon... I'm building a new AMD64 system right now (though the better half has a full list of honey-do's keeping me busy).Greg
April 2, 200521 yr No problem here, nor have I had a problem with SP2 on any of the computers I've installed it on (more than ten now).
April 3, 200521 yr Author Ok, I'll set a restore point and call it pre-sp2 and give it a go.Thanks Guys.

April 3, 200521 yr "Also one other question, AA & AF on or off?"Really comes down to personal preference. If jagged edges and blurry textures don't bother you then turn them off, otherwise AA will smooth the jaggies and AF will sharpen the texture to your pleasing. Just be aware that the 6800 takes quite a hit with AA in heavy clouds as it tries to unnecessarily smooth the fluffy bits. I personally find the hit quite acceptable, but YMMV.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
April 6, 200521 yr Re AA and AF... AA off in FS9 and forced on in the Nvidia Display Properties is the way to go.At a minimum, set it to 2XAA and 4XAF.You should hardly notice the fps impact, and the scenery is a LOT BETTER. Bert
