July 31, 200520 yr Hey everyone,Well, I just bought a new videocard(GEFORCE 256mb 5500OC), And man what a change in performance. I was just wondering, does Ram improve performance of FS quite a bit. See since I bought the vid card I was so amazed by the better performance that I am wondering if it is worth buying more Ram to increase performance even more?My specs as of now are not very good but here they are:P4 1.8GHZ386 megs of RAM(128+256)40 GIG HDGEForce 5500OC 256mbThanks againGerry Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
August 4, 200520 yr Hi Gerry...I'm using a much older card that yours, the ti4200 with 128 megs of ram on board. but, the real key is cpu ram...if you are running xp home or pro you really need 1gig. I suggest that upgrade will be very effective. basically ram will not necessarily improve fps, but it will bring up images more quickly as you sswitch views. It also should bring scenery up more smoothly.sherm
August 7, 200520 yr More RAM will eliminate stutters and reduce texture load times. Looks like you're running SDRAM (single data rate). Get a couple of sticks of 512 and see how it goes. You can find cheap 133Mhz SDR SDRAM on eBay. 1GB should cost $60 or less. You could also try CPU overclocking to improve frames. Keith
August 7, 200520 yr Author Im actually running DDR ram, Is that much more expensive then SDRAM(Im a little computer illetirate as you can tell LOL). Im not sure how to overclock the cpu, but I heard that it can have serious problems doing that(CPU burning out).ThanksGerry Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.
August 7, 200520 yr DDR RAM shouldn't be more expensive. 512MB is minimum for FS9 and XP if you want reasonable performance, 1GB is ideal. With more RAM, you get a little less stuttering and pauses when switching views, panning, opening the kneeboard screen etc. but it won't increase actual framerate. -
