A specific question to 737NG owners regarding TFT

Featured Replies

I have a old 17" CRT (at 1024*768) and the PMDG 737NG 800/900. When I pop up the radiopanel for example I can barely read the numbers for the ADF radios. Now two very plain questions for PMDG 737NG 800/9001) Can you clearly and without problem read these numbers?2) What monitor are you using and what resolution do you use?Answers to these questions would be helpful to me when deciding if and what new monitor to buy.I hear contradictory rumors. Some says a CRT has a more clear and distinct image others says this about TFT.

Quite a while ago I switched from a 19 inch CRT to a 17 inch TFT and would not go back to CRT, however I think CRT vs TFT is a personal preference thing. If you use a digital input to your TFT you are limited to the TFT native resolution, in my case 1280x1024, not the ideal 4:3 ratio but hardly noticable. All the radio frequencies are clear and easy to read, even with these old eyes :-)Remember that a 17 inch TFT gives the same viewing area as a 19 inch CRT so you benefit there. The lack of clarity on a CRT is probably down to the dot pitch of the screen, low - mid range CRT's would have a dot pitch around 0.28 or worse, TFT's don't seem to have this problem.

Another argument for a new CRT. I also play a game that only supports resolutions up to 1280*960. Will I not be able to play that game on TFT with digital input:BTW is digital input a given choice?>All the radio frequencies are clear and easy to read, even>with these old eyes :-)>Was this not the case with the 19" CRT? Do you have a TFT with digital input? >Remember that a 17 inch TFT gives the same viewing area as a>19 inch CRT so you benefit there.>Which chouce is best 17" or 19" TFT? I have before assumed the answer is a given. But I have heard that 19" TFT also means disadvantages over a 17" TFT because it don't use a higher resolution than a 17" TFT.

Which chouce is best 17" or 19" TFT? I have before assumed the answer is a given. But I have heard that 19" TFT also means disadvantages over a 17" TFT because it don't use a higher resolution than a 17" TFT. That's simply not true. It is true that some19 inchs might not have a higher res than another particular LCD 17" but this does not hold true for all LCDs @ 19". Your one main concern with any LCD is the quickness of the LCD panel, generally look for a 16 ms or faster to avoid any bothersome blurry ghosting. My current monitor is a 20ms monitor but for flight sim it's no problem really.[h4]Randy J. It does depend on how good the LCD is. A bit of advice about reading the radio panel is to stretch its size. I have had the same issue on that panel also and stretch it to a larger size. No big deal to do it and it will help.
