Rhett, the introduction of the AMD 64 bit CPU happened. For gaming they can't be beaten. Intel are on the back foot when it comes to gaming applications and don't lead by that much when it comes to encoding video/music and other apps.

Thank you for the information John I appreciate it. Well then I have a lot more research to do re: AMD. The last AMD chip I owned was a 386/40 back in 1992. In your opinion, though, will the new 65nm Presler core Pentium4's level the playing field with AMD with respect to gaming? Or do you think Intel will still be a day late and a dollar short so-to-speak?

Not too sure to be honest. :) I had an Intel until last week but just couldn't ignore the fact the AMD is quicker. The new M series CPU from AMD will no doubt provide some stiff competition for Intel. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.Generally Intel aim to stick to the business market. Wonder if they'll do anything to claim back the strong hold AMD seem to have with gamers? Only time will tell I guess. :)
