Intel vs. AMD & ATI vs. Nvidia + help on new specs!

So, now I have the system which is listed in my signature. And now I'm thinking, since I'm playing on this computer very much, especially FS9, I was thinking of getting following:Mainboard Socket-939 DDR ASUS A8N32-SLI DeluxeProzessor AMD Athlon 64 4000+, 2.4 GHz, S-939, BoxedTWINX DDR-RAM 2048MB, 433 MHz, PC-3500LL, CORSAIR (2x1024MB)ASUS Extreme N7800GTX/2DHTV, GeForce 7800 GTX, 512MB GDDR3, 2x DVI, ViVo, PCIeDo you think that this new config would really outperform my config? And for how much do you think? I know that SuperPI is not really faster on the 4000+, it's only about 3 sec or somethin'. Mine does around 33.5sec on 1MB calculation. And 4000+ does I think 30 or 31. And if one overclocks it, around 27-28. So, it would be a bit improvement, but most importantly, it's not dual core or HT, only pure power from the single CPU, plus what I really find good is less heat and less power consumption. And OK, I know RAM and GPU are faster, but do these really give much more FPS compared to mine???Another question, does it pay off to spit 150 euro more to get 512MB on the graphic card? Or can I still buy 256MB one? Thanks!

Unless you're going dual core there is little to no point in spending money on a change to AMD.I'd stay well away from the nVidia card too. Check out this thread as to why:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=11381&page=Personally, looking at your current setup, I'd wait till next year. The new AMD CPU is coming, as is the new GPUs from both ATI and nVidia.

Ah well, then I just might upgrade to TWINX RAM, as it has much better performance. What do you think? That would bring some boost imo...Yeah, I've been just reading that thread and reports on Nvidia's cheating. Oh well, no 7800 GTX for me...

John, another question: would it be worthwhile getting Intel 660 3.6 GHz??? Boost possible to 4.2 GHz and also install 64bit system?? I see that there might be difference between dual core EMT64 and 660 EMT64. Is there one? Am I missing something here???

Oh yeah, I'll find some.Btw. how's your X1800XT? Thinking of getting this one too...

There are a few AMD dual core vs. Intel dual-core reviews, yes. The reviews I saw (not necessarily conclusive, by any means) seemed to indicate that the Intel dual-core actually outperformed the AMD dual-core. The difference was not much though, and that's likely to change in a few months. And I did not get too much into the testing...was the test pure benching programs, or was it actual app performance? For instance, if they tested both cpu's in Photoshop, well, we know such a test would favor the Intel cpu.

KostaI think your current Intel rig is very nice, and I don't see how spending all of the money and effort into the AMD sys you describe would be all that much better for FS than what you have. It might run a little cooler, but hey. :)You should do the 5-year rule, like me. Only upgrade once every 5 years. haha. Actually it's more like every 4 years. Since Moore's Law is no longer in effect, it works!

No, but thanks for the tip. Good to know that 4000+ won't give me any real boost...
