January 6, 200620 yr Hehe,Shameless plea for help. :-lolI'm getting back into painting and discovered that my 9800SE has semi-failed with artifacting around the corners of sharp edges (I think I was playing with over-clocking too much and caused it). I wanted a new card anyway, and needed opinions from simmers who actually are using the types I'm considering in daily flightsimming use.I don't care how the card performs in any other app (like Quake 3, HL2, FEAR, etc), I want this card specifically for simming.I've read the forum and seen the Nivida series driver problems, but I am looking at the 6600GT and was wondering if anyone is using that one in flightsim that could report.I'm also considering the ATI series x700, x800 or even a 9800xt if I can get a good price on them, because I am not letting go of my agp mobo just yet (can't afford that upgrade yet).So this is an interim card until I make the PCI-E jump, hence not desiring dropping a large sum on a 7800 or x1800, etc.If someone who's used both the 6600gt and the x700/800 or 9800xt...maybe Pro, and has feedback good/bad, please let me know. Also, if anyone knows if a better buy from the ATI camp (price about the same) is an x700 or 9800xt, and what is the diff. betwwen a x700 and x700pro?Thanks in advance guys.Regards,Steve Drahttp://img47.photobucket.com/albums/v144/S...Dra/banner1.jpgDownload my planes at Avsim here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
January 6, 200620 yr I have 6600GT PCI-E and I am happy with it. But again it's the fastest card I've owned so far so I don't know how it compares to others in the market. But as least I can tell you there is not problem with it working for FS9. Coupled with my AMD64 3200+ and IG ram I expect my computer to last till the release of FS X without any problem.Jason JasonFAA CPL SEL MEL IR CFI-I MEI AGI
January 11, 200620 yr Hey Steve,I am really the last person to give advice on harware..I'm flying on a 1.6 gig p4 with 512meg ram, and more gigs of addon sceneries and planes than you can shake a stick at, with 5 minute load times and I have an ATI x700 card. Maybe its a lot of weaknesses in my system but, if my suspicions are right, I wouldn't recommend this X700 card. The reason being that I have seen many beautiful screenshots from third party developers of their sceneries and especially noticable in their plane livery shots, where it almost looks like a photo. The lines on their plane fuselages for example are perfectly smooth. On my computer, all the planes and buildings are jagged...for instance, sawtooth along the tops of the fuselages. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I understood that to be called "dithering" which is the card not having the power or ability to handle the graphics rendering. I've almost convinced myself to put up with it and wait for flightsim-X and windows vista and then get a whole new system like AMD x55 or x57 with 4 gig of ram and twin GTX7800 cards with 7200 rpm HD, and see if I can finally get some decent graphics and file loading.
