January 16, 200620 yr All right guys... I have been experimenting with this Fresnel lens... and I even bought a wrong lens cause I was not knowledgable... I still am not that knowledgable. But, I found one lens that is simply amazing.I thought I'll recommend it here...for the brave who are willing to spend 60 bucks to try it out.If you have a 19"-21" monitors ...for the front view preferable most of it is for front external view, Then you should try this out.http://www.3dlens.com/enter.htmlItem: #F550Important... note the Item number Item: #F550. The price listed is $28 bucks.. but since its shipped from Taiwan, the shipping cost is about another $18 or so..You can read it about it here. In terms of how it works.http://www.rickleephoto.com/rlcoll.htmThis is just the lens. It doesn't have a frame/ stand or a box. but I bought it mainly for experiementing, to see what it's all about. I have been holding it with my left hand (I better come up with a better design than that soon). I can't get enough of it.. Its fantastic... Its hard to explain what it value adds. Thats why I suggest that you get it. The worst case is, (the damage) $50-$60 bucks is wasted. I have three monitors for my sims.. 1. 24" widescreen Dell monitor, and 2 X 19"CRT for the front left and Front right running Wide view.I am unable to get a lens for the 24" widescreen. The ht of the F550 is good for the widescreen..but the lenth is too small for the widescreen. I am thinking I should get rid of the 24" widescreen and get 3 X 21" LCDs with 3 of these F550 lenses. It is that good. But if you have only one monitor, then you won't have the issues that I am facing and a must try with it.Well...I am now an evangalist for Fresnel lens. BTW..if anyone has experience with bigger and better Fresnel lens, please post your link, I am collecting this information. I am so excited over this. I think, its even better than using front projector.MannyPS: IF you like Track IR 4 Pro... Imagine this with with Track IR. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

January 16, 200620 yr no not talking about that. I am talking about the Fresnel lens. If it appears to give a larger image or wider it may distort the image?. Saying objects closer to the end get stretched out or effects like that...btw there is no headache with todays stereo3d glasses as long as you have a crt monitor capable of 120 hertz. If you mean flicker it doesn
January 16, 200620 yr Author There is no distorion with the fresnel lens I mentioned in my first post F550.IF there was..I wouldn't accept it.Mind you.. I am coming from a 24" Widescreen Dell monitor. People who own it knows what I am talking about. Thats one #### of a monitor and view. After getting used that... I am not going to be accpeting anything less.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 16, 200620 yr If so it should work just as well. But how do you hook it up on your monitor? Also there is different variants than the 550? Why is the 550 the best?
January 16, 200620 yr Author >If so it should work just as well. But how do you hook it up>on your monitor? Also there is different variants than the>550? Why is the 550 the best? The F550 is the biggest one. (fits the 19-21" monitors). The one just smaller to that may fit the 19" as well. I don't know what the size of that one is. Since I have the F550, I can speak for it. is all.Like I said in my first post, This lens is just lens as you see in their website.. No frame, no stand whatsoever. The second linke I gave on the fist post, gives you an Idea of how to make a contraption for it once you decide to mount it for good.As of now, I am holding it with my hand. This is obviously not the plan. I am yet to build a contraption. Like I said..the the F550 fits a regular 3:4 aspect ratio monitor of size 19"-21". It does not fit my 24" widescreen. So I am still in search of a fresnel lens for my monitor.I requested this vendor via e-mail if they would make one for me ...They declined. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 16, 200620 yr Author >How far in front of the monitor screen must the lens be>placed? R-I think.. anywhere between 6" to 2 feet. and your eye should be approximately 6" to 2 feet. That just an approxmation...for this particular lens. Its good to try it out. This is what I have been doing.. I fly around in my sim around pretty eye candy scenaries like so Cal and Manhatten. Then I put it in a replay loop. Now I hold this lens using my hand at different lenth and sitance from the monitor and my eye....to figure out..the best optimum distance. I personally like to sit close to the lens. But not sure..if that would be possible for mounting option.Like I said.. look at this as an experiment. Be prepared to throw away that $60. Thats my disclaimer.MannyPS Sim kits ss selling one of the same size with a stand for around $200 Euros.Check under "visuals that one has a stand.http://www.simkits.com/products.php?groupid=46 Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
January 17, 200620 yr how much is that in centimetres? I am normally sitting about 50 cm away from the monitor.
January 17, 200620 yr But say can you sit at the same distance from the monitor as before using the lens? Now I guess that since the lens is put more forward to you anyway it get naturally closer...Slight blur free antialiasing I guess. Not optimum but a little don
January 17, 200620 yr Just ordered mine. It was 40$ to Sweden ;)Now I just need to find a good way of mounting it that isn
