April 27, 200620 yr Is it possible to use CH Product's USB Flight Control Yoke with multi-engine aircraft? What key or key combinations do you have to press to get the throttle, prop, and mixture controls on the yoke to control all the engines at the same time?
April 27, 200620 yr No keys required, it is the default that all engines/props/mixtures are coordinated to the three levers. Now, having said that, FS9 isn't always good at associating the correct function with the appropriate axis. When I let FS9 create a new config file, it usually assigns the rudder function to the prop or mixture lever, I can't remember which. Then I go in manually to Options > Controls > Assignments (I believe those are the correct menu item names), click on Joysticks, and check all of the axes and make corrections as required. While you are there you can see how the levers can be assigned to individual engines but if you do that you can't undo it with any keystrokes. R-
April 27, 200620 yr There are many ways you can do this but remember the the engine select options are through multiple key strokes so a single joystick/yoke button will not do it. There may be some ways to do this using a registered version of FSUIPC but I haven't looked into it. Prior to getting CH's Throttle Quadrant I would set the sim for automixture and assign the first two levers to individual throttles (left and right) and the third lever for the prop rpm control when flying twin engine aircraft. You can also use this method for the Ford Trimotor by assigning the third lever to the third engine since you don't have to worry about a constant or variable speed prop. If you are using some of the more complex multi engine addons you will discover that once you have selected one of the engines to control it is not always easy to get the sim back to controlling all engines at once (known bug), FSUIPC also fixes this. Basically if you really want to enjoy controlling multi-engine aircraft you need a throttle quadrant. April 28, 200620 yr Author Actually, I haven't checked the USB Flight Yoke out with FS2004. In FS2002, though, when I move either the throttle, Prop, or mixture leverson, say, the Baron 58, only 1 of the two respective levers on the throttle control panel move. This makes flying a multi-engine aircraft just a tad bit difficult (G)! I think I saw in the keyboard section of the kneepad notes that said something about pressing the ctl-E or shift-E for once for each engine in quick succession to get both levers to move together but when I tried this it didn't work. I don't know if I'm not doing it fast enough or what....Scott
April 28, 200620 yr Author I've been thinking about getting the throttle quadrant, but wanted to hold off, in part, until any teething problems get worked out of the initial production run (like getting a copy of the very first release of a new software title, frequently not a good idea)! Actually, what I want to do is be able to control, for example, all both the throttle levers on the Baron 58 with the single throttle lever on the Flight Yoke. In FS2002 anyway, the throttle on the yoke only controls one of the two engine levers which makes controling the aircraft in flight a very dicey affair to say the least!Scott

But now with the clarification you have provided here I understand your problem better. The key strokes required to coordinate your engines are "e", "1", "2" or "e", "1", "2", "3" etc. The "e" key is struck without a "Shift" or "Ctrl" modifier and each key is released before pressing the next. The numeric keys atop the alpha-keyboard are used not the numpad keys. The problem usually occurs because we accidentally press the "e" key and that selects engine 1 only. I have had a couple of panels which were almost impossible to use because of this problem. It seems that on some panels, if you inadvertently select engine one only, then the e, 1, 2, n key sequence won't undo the single engine selection.Pete Dowson addresses this problem in FSUIPC. It gives you the ability to assign a single keystroke to recoordinate the engines. I have never tried it to see if it would fix any of those panels that gave me such fits.R-
April 28, 200620 yr You raise an interesting thought..I just had to reload FS and all my programs (overloaded the previous with too many addons), but when I do asssignments and sensitibities for the quadrant, I cannot seeem to get the detents to work, min and detent stay the same......but I use the second two levers for props, not mixture! Maybe if I change this it will work better.........Think I read somwhere that FSUIPC (reg) has some special settings for the mixtures.....funny, before I had the throttles working fine and reversers came on below the detent, now it doesn't?? Any thoughts?? B42L8
