Very interesting Observation wrt FSX Performance ......

Featured Replies

Something VERY funny going on with graphics drivers and Flight Simulator X.Installed Demo, and no matter what AA settings etc, things didn't look that great, AA didn't seem to be working that well, plane reflections looked dithered (I posted on here saying the aircraft looked much worse than in FS9) and general performance was awful (Core 2 @ 3.2 gig + X1900XT ...!!)I then installed the latest beta ATI driver, and everything is better - like night and day.Peformance is 3 times better, AA etc is now working, graphics effects like flare etc are working ...It was almost as if before FSX was running in a pseudo software emulation mode ... non-accelerated graphics. Now one test which seemed to work - when in this "emulation" mode if you pressed s for views multiple times, all the textures disappeared, then re-came back very slowly.I would think it was my computer, BUT now thinking back - before I built my Conroe I had a 4400+ + 7900GT ... that was the same, awful performance for FSX, until I reinstalled the graphics drivers AFTER installing the game.I'm very pleased with the game now, and can't wait for it to arrive next week.Hope this is of help,Mark.

ATI gives beta drivers ?

  • Author

yes - on their website

Do you have a link to ATI beta drivers, i searhed for them a couple of days ago, but couldnt find them at ATI

Hi,Could you please post a link to the betas? I sure can't find them. Thanks,Ed

Hey Mark,I had a similar experience a few weeks ago when the NVidia 91.47 version drivers (in my case the x64 variant :-> ) were released. I also noticed a slight improvement when running in SLI mode after installing the new drivers - while the overall frame rate didn't go up, the variability went way down. Without SLI, I was bouncing between 20/25 and 40 (slider in FSX set to unlimited); with SLI I was seeing pretty much 35 to 40 trending more towards 35 - my machine isn't exactly what most around here would consider "clean" while running the above either, I have VMWare Server running 1 or more virtual machines in the background, 1 or more windows open to view the above virtual machines, whatever is running inside those virtual machines, etc; which helps explain some of the variability I see on this machine :->Tim

>ATI gives beta drivers ?All of ATI's drivers are beta imo...
