October 11, 200619 yr Hello everyone!I'd like to buy myself a 19 inch LCD monitor. Now, lets be really honest, I don't need one but am buying it purely to enjoy FS more. I've got a 15 inch, 5 year old Samsung SyncMaster 550s which works fine. I just want a bigger screen. So, is there anything specific I should be looking for in an LCD monitor if it's to be used for FS? The reason I ask is that today I saw 2 Samsung 19 inchers, one twice the price of the other. Obviously, I'd prefer the cheaper one.Any advice much appreciated!Gavin Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
October 11, 200619 yr Hi Gavin,I am not an expert... But I would think the response time usually mentioned in ms like 8ms or 16ms.. That matters. Try to get 8ms or less... and definitly don't get the 25ms ones... There will be ghosts on your screen when something moves fast on the screen. The lower the better. and also contrast Ratio. 700:1 is better than 500:1Contrast Ratio 700:1Response Time 8msApart from that, size and native resolution matters. Higher the better. But usually if they are 19" LCD, Recommended Resolution is probably 1280x1024 on both of them.Other than that, the brand? and/or actually looks and feel/These are the things I would look for.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
October 12, 200619 yr Hi Gavin, the technical data of the display was pointed out. I'ld just like to add that an appropriate display adapter is equally important when increasing resolutions. A GPU which did 1024x without a hitch won't necessarily do almost double the amount of pixels the same way. In 'mondo 3D', this is mission-critical. ;-) Hope this adds to thoughts, enjoy and kind regards Jaap

October 13, 200619 yr I just purchased a Samsung 20.1" LCD model 204B and am quite happy with it. It's not widescreen but must be the widest 4:3 out there. Also it has a 5 ms response time...one of the quickest you'll find. You can find it in both Silver and black for around $330...not much more then the 19" models.http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LC...=Specifications System: Rysen 7-9700X, MSI Pro X870-P WiFi AM5 Motherboard, Team T-Force Delta 64 GB DDR5 6000 Mhz, Corsair RM1000x80 PLUS Gold, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 Super Windforce 12GB OC, NVIDIA Drivers 610.47, 2TB WD Blue SN580 NVMe m.2 SSD for Windows 11 Home, 2TB WD Black SN850X NVMe m2 SSD for MSFS & Steam, LG 27GX700A-B 280 Hz OLED 27" 2560x1440 280Hz Monitor, Thrustmaster Airbus flight stick, Logitech M510 wireless Mouse.
October 13, 200619 yr Author >Starting Friday (10/13) you can buy a 22" Viewsonic at Costco>for $299. 5ms.But the cost of the return flight from Poland would cancel out the good price. Thanks all the same :-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
October 13, 200619 yr Author I've just bought a 19 inch Samsung and it looks fantastic. How did I last so long with only 15 inches? I'm sure my girlfriend will also appreciate the size increase ;-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
