November 16, 200619 yr i posted a few times upon release of fs x boy was i unhappy going from a silky smooth good looking fs9 to errrr mmmm fs x.( 1 major thought is why release a sim that will be good in the future with future technology...by the time it comes out a new version of fs will be due and the process will start again)system was an Amd 4000 ,, 1 gig ram ,, gf 6600gt agp graphics.i used all the tweaks from http://www.fox-fam.com/wordpress/?page_id=41 and looking at the flight forums each day hoping for that magical tweak to transform fs x...but it wasnt gunna happen.Anyway more and more reading lead me to a realisation that i had to upgrade...and luckily my wife gave me the green light.i ordered a core 2 duo e6600,,,,2 gig ram,,,,pci e 7950now i know i could or should have gone for the new 8800 cards but the green light from the wife wasnt unlimited spending so i got the best i could afford...it will be a while before i get vista and a dx10 card.well the performance of fs x...on default settings after install sliders were auto to medium high...i took of in the cessna over london and boy oh boy i was getting 22fps locked...it had set it there...but no matter were i looked or switched it stayed at 22,,,so i set the slider to unlimited and frames hung between 48 and 55.hopefully that will do for the time being...hopefully even with a big frame hit from addons i still can hold frames in the 20`s...fingers crossedAndy
November 16, 200619 yr greatcan you go to KSEA on 34R in the 737VC takeoff on Normal Autogen and post your findings thanks. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram

November 17, 200619 yr Author Hi clayton as you requested....Ksea r/w 34r....frames between 19 and 22,,,locked at 22 vc 737 zoom 0.50flew over seattle 1200ft frames 20-22 locked 22same again in 2d cockpit 21 to 22 locked 22so i then went to Kjfk...this really crippled my last system with frames of 1 or 2 not a second more like 1 or 2 every 4 or 5 seconds LOL....and from take off to a low flight over the city on to the staue of liberty to see the birds frames never dropped below 14...staying around 17...so well impressed...obviously if i had addon aircraft i might well suffer...but all of this is with a fresh install of fsx and NO tweaks yet,,,oh and i had the weather set to fair,,,so a few clouds around.right fsx setting...set its self to medium high...i have only capped the frames to 22...the rest that are ticked or set are as follows..Trilinearglobal res highlens flareadvanced animationslevel of detail mediummesh 70mesh res 76mtexture res 2mwater high 1scenery complex normautogen normspecial effects highand i know ive said before but i have done no tweaks yet...its the core 2 duo e6600 (2.4) overclocked to 2.88 so not even stressing it.i hope you see this and are happy...i chewed over the upgrade...i love the flight sim series but upgrading dont come cheap so was worried if the sim ran awful.Andrew
November 18, 200619 yr thanks for thisyes it is encouraging, you mentioned you overclocked it, is it hard to do this, ive never overclocked before, would i need an extra fan or something?did you get any stuttering over seattle?even more encouraging you mentioned you havent done any other tweaks with it as well. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
November 18, 200619 yr Author stuttering no,,,virtually all stuttering has gone,,,i say virtually...in a few hours of testing now i can count on 1 hand the stutters,,,this after taxiing on my last system and turning was a nightmare...1 big stutter.overclocking hehehe welllll a small cheat here...ive never overclocked b4....but the motherboard i got for the core 2 duo is an asus P5w dh delux...in the bios is an option for preset overclocking...just click on the 1 i wanted...5% 10% 15% and so on to 30% ive tried them all just to make sure and settled at 20% so a 2.4 ghz now runs at 2.88 could go more but ive no needthere are all the other options to change in the bios but i havnt tried them once i`d seen the presetsextra fans,,,,mmmm depends on the temps...these chips run coolish i have 2 fans in the case and the stock heatsink and fan and all seems well...i suppose if i was to overcloxk it further i may need extra fans. And yep i swear to you i havnt twaeked the sim...to be honest i havnt had time...seem to work and sleep at the moment.Andrew
November 18, 200619 yr I'm buying an E6400 with a gigabyte motherboard. I'm shooting for the moon, fsb 500mhz (from 266) and cpu 4ghz (from 2.13). Now the moon might be too far, but I expect to get close. Extra cooling will be required on the cpu, northbridge and possibly the southbridge. Don't expect to get much out of the stock coolers. Tuniq tower looks like a good solution
