December 2, 200619 yr Hey guys,Tonight, I shall be getting a new graphics card for FSX. My system is as follows:P4 3Ghz Processor1024MB RAM80Gig HDGeforce 5700VE 128MB OC'edI currently get no more that 10FPS with FSX on minimal settings, and I will be reformatting, defragmenting my HD etc when I get a new G-card. (A larger HD will also come at a later stage.)I am thinking of getting the Asus N7600GS 256MB - What do you think?Cheers,Tim
December 2, 200619 yr From what I've read others post here at AVSIM, I would suggest (and my plans for the near future) getting the best card you can afford which has 512MB memory. Many have said that 512 makes a dramatic diff over 256MB vid cards. I have noticed some good comments made by people with the Nvidia 7900 512MB cards. You should also consider buying another 1GB system RAM while you're at it.
December 2, 200619 yr Thanks for that, I think I might get another 1GB of RAM as well. However, the best card on the market now is the N7600GS 256MB for AG8X Cards (in hong kong)
December 2, 200619 yr I thought the only Direct 10 compatible card by nVidia was the 8800 card? Isn't that a MUST for FSX? Paul Gugliotta
December 2, 200619 yr Can your motherboard do PCIe? Or are you stuck with AGP?Your best bet is a 8800 GS, but is on the order of $500Otherwise, I would suggest the 7950GT, which you can get for about $270. From what I have heard, however, the 8800 blows it away. But at 3 GHz, I don't know if you will notice the difference. You can get a 7800GS AGP for $250.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
December 3, 200619 yr I just went through this exercise, I needed a new computer anyway to compliment my work with video editing. I just gave up on waiting for Vista and DX10 cards.Get a minumum of 2 gig RAM, three would be better.Get a card the is 512 Mb, I have an Radeon X1600 PCI Express and sort of wished I had gotten an even better card, ie X1900.I am using ADM 64 Athlon 4200 Ghtz, dual core (although we all know the dual core thing means nothing for FS).For FSX I can sqeak a respectible 21-24 FPS, half sliders settings, for most areas which is nicely flowing, it tightens up over big cities but still is OK for fun. However, for once my FS2004 ROCKS, I finally can fly a frigging jet at mach 2 with FSP never budging off my locked 24, and no blurries, ever. Unlocked I found that I could hit 35-60FPS in very detailed scenery areas.I will be maintain my dual FS system of 2004 and FSX for a long time yet.
