December 31, 200619 yr I went and did it!Ordered the Quad FX promo package from NewEgg.http://promotions.newegg.com/AMD/AMD_Gaming122606/index.htmlBought it with the FX-74.Purchased 4 gig Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800Mhz, 4-4-4-12-2T.Also got a BFG-GForce 8800GTX and a Enermax 1000 Watt PSU.Kyle Bennet claims two FX-74's are packed in each box?http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html...W50aHVzaWFzdA==The L1N64-SLI mobo has two NV-590 chips and can be set up for an effective HT-2000 speed, the chipset is NV-680a. The 680i is for intel, would you...I have a drive with WinXP-64 on it. I will use this drive to get it to post, then test the memory with memtest-86 and Ortho after that. Then I will set up a few Raptors to boot the OS from RAID-0.It's a power hog with all the CPU's, SLI vid, fans, etc., don't care, for now. I will be able to drop a few K8L's in when the time comes. If this thing, (when I get the parts), won't run FSX with decent frames I give up.I know their are other cheaper solutions right now, intel based. I just like AMD's platform and can see an upgrade path that I'm not sure itel has?I like what I like, so spare me any advice regarding other solutions.
December 31, 200619 yr No Kiddin!! Schweet!! I'm Totally interested in how this thing runs out for you...Please Report...Man....That price on the FX-74's is Excellant!!"I know their are other cheaper solutions right now, intel based."All things considered...I'm not soo sure about that...I'd say your set-up on a out of the box 3.0ghz processor is lookin pretty Schweet...I wonder if/how they are overclocking??I'm not so absolutly thrilled with my E6600 set-up...I was conemplating doing something else anyhow...I got all the other stuff...$1k would get me what I need...AMD style too...Hummm...I'll keep my eye on this thread...Thanks...
December 31, 200619 yr >I'm not so absolutly thrilled with my E6600 set-up...I was conemplating doing something else anyhow...Care to explain ..Chuck?:)Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 31, 200619 yr "Care to explain ..Chuck?"Ohh...naaa...I just got a lemon I think...I'm not use to having problems...This crazy thing just won't strighten up and fly right.. :+ Nothing to do with the processor in perticular...I'm just gonna make some component changes...When both my 2gb RAM kits get back from being RMA'd...My initial thought was I may step it up to a x6800 while I'm swapping stuff around??You ever had a car that was a lemon in the beginning?? You know how it effects your overall "feeling" of the vehicle...Well that's kinda been my C2D expierence thusfar..he heI don't wanna Dog Out C2D's...Or anyone elses system...Mine in perticular has some "issues"...We'll get her going though...Edit: Manny..I have a favor to ask..Can you check your PM's...Have Fun...
December 31, 200619 yr Two dual core chips, i.e. four cores.Won't really run FSX any better than one single core chip though, far cheaper option would be an overclocked E6300 I'm afraid and the AMD chips are not as good as the Intel C2Ds either...
December 31, 200619 yr Just sent a reply in the PM Chuck.Which component is the lemon? the memory or Motherboard? Just send it back and replace it.The feeling, that the entire setup is not kosher. Well..I know the feeling. When I was getting constant reboot problems, I felt the same way. But once the problem is isolated and dealt with, it would be different. You probably already knew that.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 31, 200619 yr I'm surprised that you didn't go with the QX6700.The quad-core Intel CPU destroys the FX-74 quad in all gaming benchmarks, the FX-74 needs 400 Watts at idle meaning in conjunction with your Gforce 8800 that 1000 Watt PSU will be sucking money your pockets every month with the electric bill!Obviously, $$$ is no object and that's cool, just seens with the availablity of the Intel quad core the FX-74 is obsolete before it hit the shelves.
