February 14, 200719 yr I have tried most of the tweeks, and even tho I get 15-18 FPS at 3500 feet over Chicago, when I go into a turn the stutters start and an some times a drop to 2 FPS and a temp. freeze than FPS pop back up to 15-18. Have a Dell 8300/3ghz/ Windows XP with SP2//2.5 gig of DDR2 400 memory/ATI 1600 XP AGP video card with 512 MB mem./ 400 W PS With dual fans plus extra Fox Exhaust fan. Have FSX alone on a seperate 85 gig HD.I have been told I should remove the extra 1/2 Gig of Memory and just use 2 GiG?????? I have tried different settings on page file and now have both Drive C & D set on system managed.ANY IDEAS ON THE PAGE FILE????If I fly Alaska the FPS are higher and less stutters. It seems like FSX loads up after awhile and has to stutter & maybe freeze up for a couple of seconds and then work pretty good for a while.Does anyone have a similiar size system that has cured these problems???All ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! Chuck
February 15, 200719 yr The thing that worked for me with severe stutters was to lock the Frame Rate so that the frame count was consistent. On my current system that can be low, such as less than 17 but set-up like this the sim is fluid and enjoyable. I sometimes lock it down to as low as 10 or 12. If the FPS are not locked I get awful stutters in turns. My system is pretty pathetic though.
February 15, 200719 yr Have you messed with the fiber frame fraction time setting in your FSX.cfg file by any chance?Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

Thanks in advance!!! Chuck >>I don't know about the stutters, but the thing that solved the massive dro[ in fames after a few minutes flying, was removing the BufferPool section in the fsx.cfg file. Now I can run hours at a time (If my ATI Video driver holds up that long, which unfortunately is not as stable as it should be. Had the same issue with my last system that had an ATI card/drivers. Since then I used nothing but Nvidia and never had any driver issues. I don't know why I went back to ATI! Other than that though, I'm happy with the performance I get from it. (When it don't crash!!) Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
February 15, 200719 yr I've tried fiber frame fraction setting 0.33 and every tweek listed. Both with & without Buffer pool.Any ideas on page file setting with 2 drives.???
February 15, 200719 yr The reason I mention this is that I have mostly cured the stutters I was having while panning in VC after about 30 mins of FSX use by getting rid of this setting from FSX.cfg file. I previously had it set to 0.25.Well at least you tried it.Oh and I let windows manage the page file size for me, even with two drives. I don't think it makes much difference until you actually run out of memory and page file space (where ever you put it and how ever big you make it).Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11

February 16, 200719 yr that if you have added (and 'messed' with) and then subsequently removed the following variables from FSX.cfg:FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION= and PoolSize=, they will default back to values of 0.33 and 1000000 respectively. As to the Paging file setting, I would advise you to:1. Select 'No paging file'. Click Set, Apply and then reboot (If you encounter any problems rebooting back into Windows, enter SAFE MODE instead) before proceeding to 2.2. Select the same drive your O/S is installed on, check 'Custom size' and enter 2560MB for Initial size and Maximum size (these values should suit most users). Click Set, Apply and reboot. This will create a fresh unfragmented paging file of fixed size which will stay unfragmented and, consequently, will be more efficient. If you have 2 or more drives/partitions make sure these have No paging file selected, Set and Applied. There are some arguments (the principal one being reducing the workload on your HD read/write heads) in favour of placing your Paging file on the fastest physical drive. I have 2 drives - one is a SATAII (my faster main drive which is split into 2 logical partitions - 15 GB for XP and the rest for Programs including Sims) and the other is an IDE ATA133 which I use for archiving and the odd program or utility. I have tried placing the paging file on either physical drive and have not noted any performance advantages so, currently, the paging file is on the C: partition along with XP. I think if you have <= 1GB of Physical memory installed then it is likely there will be greater use of the Paging file and so placing it on the fastest drive might be the sensible way to go. I have 2GB of PC3200 DDR memory and find that although XP will always use the Paging file it is not nearly as great, so my arrangement seems to work just fine.Hope all this has been helpful.Mike
