February 22, 200719 yr I'm sure that this is not the proper place to ask this question, but I have never overclocked my video card before. Any tips, utilities, how-tos, etc to keep from having a melt down. I have a basic Nvidia Geforce 6100.Thanks,Wes
February 22, 200719 yr Wesbest if you look on www.overclockers.co.ukand/or www.guru3d.com you will find out all about overclocking there.Rich
February 23, 200719 yr Thanks for the info Rich. I have tried enabling CoolBits for Nvidia Control Panel. When trying to set custom timing for OC it shows the Core bus is 403 mhz and the memory core is 0 mhz, yes zero.If I try changing memory or main core bus and hit test button it always fails. Tried installing RivaTuner. It detected the ForceWare driver, but had no customize button for getting to overclocking.Maybe someone else could give a suggestion. Thanks,Wes
February 23, 200719 yr I use, believe it or not, ATITool available at http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ to overclock my nVidia card. February 23, 200719 yr Uhhh, is that card even overclockable?That's the bottom of the nvidia 6xxx line I believe.Is it a laptop, or in your desktop, does it have a fan on it or heatsink? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 23, 200719 yr Thanks, Gary. I just downloaded AtiTool and am running it as we speak. It is currently trying to find Max Core. I expected it to show the increments increasing in mhz as it was trying to reach max, but as the attached screenshot show it is still the same as the default. Is that not supposed to show until you hit abort? (It has been running about an hour now). Thanks,Wes
February 23, 200719 yr I don't know if it is clockable or not. Found a lot out there through google search where people are overclocking NVIDIA GeForce 6100, but could not do it as they did with CoolBits or RivaTuner (see original post). Yes I believe it is bottom of the line NVIDIA. After running 3DMark05 it tells me that you could purchase a 6100 for $59.95! Or get the best card for $500 - $700. It actually runs quite well, has 512 MB with a Core clock speed of 425. I recall top of the line having something like 640 MB and not a whole lot more clock speed. Obviously there is a whole lot more about video cards that I don't know about. Mine for instance appears to have only 2 "pixel pipelines" and others like 16?Wes
February 23, 200719 yr I'm thinking that your video card uses shared system memory, which may be why you are seeing 0MHz for memory clock as it is not adjustable like on video cards with dedicated memory. It is strange that Max Core is not working for you, but again that could be due to the program being confused by shared system memory. Are you able to move the core clock slider up a little (say by 10MHz), set the clock and it stays? If so, then you can manually test for artifacts for a few minutes, then slowly increment core clock speed by no more than 10MHz at a time and repeat the artifact scan.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
February 23, 200719 yr That's all possible, just cannot find a way to confirm that.So I started Find Max Mem and did see mhz increasing (starting at zero). After almost an hour it was still climbing and aborted at 1,200 mhz! Hmmm...something not looking right. So I did go back and try to first move the Core slider and incremented from 425 to 435 mhz, now it too is climbing (from 435 to 533 and now is not incrementing...arghhh).Wes
February 24, 200719 yr Some excellent guides for Core2Duo on Tom's Hardware. They also tend to balance overclocking with equipment safety so you can follow their guides without blowing components.Mark. Mark CYYZ
