April 12, 200719 yr I've just returned from a 3 month stint in the Falklands, and anyone who has had the (mis)pleasure of visiting that place will know there is absolutely nothing there worth spending your money on. Consequently I came home with a very plump bank balance, so I treated myself to a Dell 2707WFP 27" LCD. It arrived late this afternoon, and all I can say is WOW!I've got it hooked up to my laptop, and it really is an impressive bit of kit, especially after using a 17" laptop display for so long. I've tried a couple of quick flights with FS and the difference is dramatic, it makes a huge difference flying in the VC with a large display, and IFR with 2D panels is a joy to behold. I had a quick blast at Silent Hunter 4, and was also very impressed, it was almost cinematic. I also tried a quick battle in Medieval II and it looked fantastic. If you've got some money burning a hole in your pocket you can do a lot worse than buy one of these :) Nick
April 12, 200719 yr Got mine about a month ago. I am still enjoying it very much. My first choice was the 30" by Dell, but my system could not handle it. Hopefully when I upgrade.Just the thought of having the 30" and the 27" side by side is enough to make me drool.Abe
April 14, 200719 yr While not in the same league size wise as the 27" Dell monitor last winter I picked up one of the new 20" NEC multi-sync to plug my laptop into when home. There were 22" monitors available for less and even a 24" for about the same but the display quality of the NEC blew me away. Having a larger monitor at home for laptop users is the way to go. Dave
April 21, 200719 yr EngineRoom:How wide/large is the field of vision of the DELL 27"? When you are in a virtual cockpit, how do things look? I am sure it is large but do you have a wider (in degrees) field of view with this monitor ?Also, what is the resolution and does it look very sharp and crisp?I have a DELL 24" and was very impressed with it. I had thought about getting the 30" DELL but decided to go with triple monitors and get Triplehead2Go by MATROX which is stunning. But I am still interested in a very large LCD.Appreciate any further info, thanks.JS Jonathan Sacks Dell XPS Gen 4, Pentium IV Northwood extreme 3.8Ghz, 3Ghz RAM, eVGA 7900 GTO, 12 GoFlight modules plus MCP-PRO AP and EFIS, GF pedestal, CH rudder pedals, CH throttle quadrant, 42" LG LED, 24" DELL LCD, Windows XP, FS2004, FSUIPC 3.96 FS Autostart 1.1 (Build 11), FS Navigator 4.6, UT, FE, GE, REX, PMDG, Level-D, PSS, etc.
April 22, 200719 yr JS, the resolution is 1920x1200, same as the 24" I believe. As a monitor it's great, but video sometimes looks grainy. But I am very satisfied with it. Like I said earlier, I would have went for the 30" if I had the equipment to support it. I am thinking seriously that when I upgrade, in a few months, I will get the 30" as a second monitor. If you have the money and equipment, go for the 30".....better resolution.Abe
