June 8, 200718 yr Howdy,Does the 640MB version of the 8800GTS have any advantage over the 320MB version in FSX at 1280x1024? Thanks. ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
June 8, 200718 yr Seeing that I have seen over 450MB video memory usage with my setup, i'd have to say yes on the grounds that something would have to be swapped out with 320MB. Having said that, I only see this high memory use with FSX settings cranked real high and a spanned resolution of 3360x1050. Nonetheless, the ACES guys have stated in here quite a few times that more video memory with FSX is often better than raw GPU speed within a particular GPU class.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
June 8, 200718 yr Author I guess 640 is at least the best "looking to the future" choice, for many reasons, including running multiple monitors, which I would love to do.Thanks. @-@ ___________________________I'm just flying for the fun of it.
June 8, 200718 yr Couple of questions...If you are spanning the display across the two widescreen monitors don't you end up with the center of your vision being split at the bezels? I have tried spanning mine and while it works fine it makes landings very distracting. I am curious if you found a way to offset the image center or if you just deal with the split being in an inconvenient place. I don't mind the "seam" at the bezels but when it splits the center of my view I found it annoying. I always wanted to move the image center one way or the other so at worst the radio panel or something was the worst of the "seam".The other question is how you are monitoring you graphics ram usage. I know how to get it displayed in X-Plane but in MSFS I haven't seen such a display setting. Are you looking at it from an outside application like one of Nvidia's managers?
June 8, 200718 yr Yes, your center of vision gets split at the the bezels. You can offset the image center by moving the eyepoint left (CTRL+SHFT+Backspace) or rignt (CTRL+SHFT+Enter) to minimise split instrument instances. There are two ways to deal with landings. The first is to use windowed mode and set your non maximised window size to a single monitor, which you switch out of maximised spanned mode to for landings. The other is to pan the view ever so slightly left or right, so that the rwy is no longe split down the bezel, then take that into account with how you fly (ie. it's like crabbing in a mild cross wind). The ideal solution is the triple head 2 go system, which gives you a clear center view, but what I do is a reasonable compromise for a similar field of view and a whole lot less money. I am hoping that either video cards will start supporting triple or quad output on double, or preferably single, card SLI solutions or future versions of triple head 2 go will provide full DVI support across a much greater variety of resolution combinations (ie. more than the 19" staple we see today).Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
