QUAD CORE TOTALLY NEW MACHINE?

Featured Replies

Hi friends, i'm contacting you this time, 'cause I'm thinking to buy a very totally new machine.I'm looking foward to buy this machine, but I want some help from you telling me all about this new configuration.I need to know if you thing with this new machine, if I would like to run FS9, i will get very good performance? graphics? soft flight? etc...The new machine will be:2 XFX nVidia GeForce 8600GTS Extreme 256MB 720MHz 2DVI/HDTV HDCPPCI-Express1 Western Digital WD1500AHFD 150GB SATA 10k rpm 16MB Hard DriveW/Crystal-Clear Lens1 STT DDR2-800 2GB/128x8 CL5 Memory1 GIGABYTE GA-N650SLI-DS4 Core 2 Duo/ nForce 650i SLI/ DDR2-800/IEEE1394/ A&GbE/ ATX Motherboard1 Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600 2.4GHz 1066MHz 8MB LGA775 EM64TCPU, RetailI just read recently that FSX does not support Quad Core, It's true?. I'm Thinking to run FS9 & Win XP, can I do it?Please fell free to help me, to have a better close idea about that.Always gratefully in advance for your help!!!

I'm sure this wil be kicked to the hardware forum but lets try and help.Dual graphics cards in SLI don't work that well with FS-9 and FS-X its probably better to get 1 realy good card. Maybe get an okayish middle of the road card and buy a top of the line 2nd gen (not out jet) DX10 card when the DX10 patch for FS-X is released.Quad core won't help much in FS9, FS-X has support but opinions differ about how effictive it is. As a safety measure go for a high clockspeed processor. My gues is that a higher clocked dual core will perform beter then a quad core with a lower clock. When you get al those new tech components you might do beter runing Vista. If you run Vista also go for 4 Gig of memory.Would love to be able to buy such a monster machine. At the moment my budget limits me to running FS9 and X-plane. I'm even doubtfull if current day hardware can run FS-X fast enough for my taste.

Looking to build a new machine too, and for mainly an FS9 final build and FSX starter.I hear the Quad 6600 is gonna be a little over 200 USD after July 22nd, my birthday!! Not sure why the 22nd is the price drop, but I'm waiting for that to see. Got the money now though.I've seen a lot of suggestions for the single 8800GTS 640MB video card. Those are most likely my two picked items for now.

I have just installed a quad 6600 after having used a dual 6600. Almost no noticeable performance difference in FSX (improved loading times, however) so based on my initial experience I wouldn't suggest a quad if you are solely focussed on FSX.Andrew

Fastest Penryn I can afford, or two of them! Guess that doesn't always pan out unfortunately.Vista & FSX have been so plagued by, shall we say, being less than perfect, that I have had no problem being patient for a big jump in quality & performance. FS9, tricked out as they say, remains an excellent platform to flight sim on. Use it almost every day still! After all these years!Noel
