This is a responed to a q to navidia TS.WHAT do you make of this ,need helpto understand more please. thanks. Customer(ulovely)Geforce 8800 GTS graphics card when using "Application controlled" settings in fsx is the worse you can have. can u ad or change the setting i have so i do get it good . did u ever run fsx sir ?fsx is not just a game .thats why i buy this card .i used to have ati all my life ,but i did give nvidia a try this time .please awnser as a tech not a novic.!!!QUOTEDiscussion Thread Response (MG) 07/16/2007 09:14 PMRegards,NVIDIA Customer Care Hello (ulovely)I am sorry for the late response. The settings inside of the NVIDIA Control Panel are configured for the optimal image quality and performance balance already. Changing these settings can provide you better performance at a cost of image quality or vice versa but there are better ways to improve FSX performance. Unfortunately, this game is not really multi-threaded and therefore it can not benefit from dual core processors. [?](What this is mean)This will somewhat limit the performance of the Geforce 8800 which may become somewhat CPU limited. FSX is one of the few rare titles which is very CPU and GPU dependant. The best optimizations are done by hacking the game itself. There are several tweaks that are available online. I've tried this at home and they do make a great difference in performance. SP1 does improve performance over the shipping version of FSX however this is not due to dual core optiimizations but rather similar tweaks that causes the game to draw less. Trying similar tweaks will give you the best boost in performance. Look up in Google for optmizations and try out different settings until you find a setting that will work for you. You may also download nTune which allows you to overclock your graphics card for additionaly performance:Regards,NVIDIA Customer Care

So you posting here as well matey eh...? ;)They are just telling you that in the nVidia control panel, many options affect performance and image quality. The output of any graphics card is a balance between how good the quality of the image rendering is against the speed it is able to achieve it. It's always a balance and trade off between the two.FSX is not really multithreaded and so does not benefit from more than one core or processor as much as an application that has been written from the start with multithreading in mind. SP1 helped out a lot by shifting I/O threads to a second processor and, since FSX is very dependent on constant scenery loading, it has the effect of a good boost in performance. Apart from that, it doesn't do much more as the quad core guys have confirmed.FSX as a whole is, just like any application, a balance between features and performance - turn settings up increases the quality at the expense of FPS performance, turn sliders down to increase FPS but at the expense of a decrease in overall quality (textures, distance rendering, AI etc.) It all depends on the hardware as to the point at which you are satisfied with the result.Overclocking your GPU could yield benefits but, since FSX is CPU bound, unlikely in these circumstances (and, since I know what your spec' is, not going to make a bit of difference to you ;)

>>So you posting here as well matey eh...? >>I'm curious as to what you meant by this. The post has been made on another forum as well - no issue, just a fellow simmer looking for answers.

According to my CPU usage chart, I'd say FSX SP1 is DEFINITELY multithreaded as both CPUs are booked solid.Etienne

Yes, SP1 is multithreaded. Who do you believe says Yes: Your own computer's performance monitor Microsoft Intel AMD Various SP1 reviews says No: 1 random NV support personThat seems like an easy call to me, but I admit I am biased.

thanks mr . PhilTaylor. but dont get mad for what i feel.has nothing to do with u personaly i do admir all what u have done,in fsx sp1 ,i take my hat off for u sir..!But for me & many people how went and buyfsx & invest 1000 of $ in something the love .This flight sim x.it dose not mater hows right or wrong here.I put & almost $ 10.000 in this rig .I spend HR of tweaking & testing, I want it working. IT COSTS US MONEY !!!CPU,VID CARD,MEMORY,SOFTWARE MORE....! IF YOU BUY A CAR DO YOU HAVE TO TWEAK IT TO WORK ? or any other games ,or mybe i cant putit correctly now .but u will see my point. FROM THE DAY FSX CAME OUT ALL WE DID IS TWEAKING.THEN YES SP1 CAME OUT LIKE A LIFE SAVER .THE JOB WAS VERY GOOD BY MR.Phil Taylor .BUT THE VID CARDS DRIVERS is NOT UP TO PAR.NAVIDIA,MICROSOFT ,FSX ,DRIVERS, INTEL DODON'THY ALL MAKE MONEY FROMUS... THE POOR FLIGHT SIMMERS HAVE TO KEEP TWEAKING ...! YES NOW I HAVE IT MAX AT 30 FPS EVEVERYWHERE.but HOW MATCH MONEY i have SPEND $$$$$$ TO GET THERE?IM NOT RUNNING TO BLAME THE WORLD FOR IT ,I JUSTWANT TO BE HAPPY W MY INVESTMENT,my HOBBY that LOVEis flight sim x . thanks sir w respect.

Actually the drivers work quite well for the 8800 cards now. I would not trust N-tune though, especially if you have an Nvidia 680 motherboard, and overclock it.I would also advise you against overclocking your video card unless you are sure you know what you are doing, and you have added case fans for ventalation. The tech from Nvidia was not only incorrect regarding FSX SP1, but regatding the settings in the driver control panel. The settings there are lame, because some people put these high end cards in mid to lower end systems. Which is fine. Who can afford entirly new systems all the time? The point is, the card can produce much better graphics than c.p. sets for the defaults. But, as stated above, there is a tradeoff between FPS performance, and picture quality.

MR. FALCON im with u on this . thanks.

>THE JOB WAS VERY GOOD BY MR.Phil Taylor .Confirmed (the whole ACES team btw.)>BUT THE VID CARDS DRIVERS is NOT UP TO PAR.ConfirmedFortunately i have a very fast system which ran FSX like a dream on XP. Looks different with Vista - the nVidia driver(s) are the bottleneck, no doubt anymore. So what shall we do ? Wait another half year to get the 160.02 XP driver performance ? Within a half year I'll drop my 8800 GTX and go shopping for a new GPU. Might be a ATI again (like always before). No a really excited user over here...Heiko

Cheers

Heiko
