July 28, 200718 yr Hi GuysQuick question, i'm looking for a monitor upgrade and can't decide between a single 1680x1050 22" widecreen or a dual 1280x1024 19" setup.Price for either setup averages out at around
July 28, 200718 yr Hi Gary,These preferences really vary ALOT across this board, for ME, I went from a multiple setup, to one big screen exactly for the reason you mentioned, the whole plastic border issue killing the overall experience, and for me, Im not planning to go back to multiple...Using this 57" screen in combo with TrackIr is heaven for me.Just my 2Y.
July 28, 200718 yr Gary- I think the number one purpose of multi monitors is to widen your flying perspective. Can you imagine driving your car with just a single LCD to replace the windshield? That's the view you get in Flight Sim with a single monitor- View Forward: 90
July 28, 200718 yr The problem with 2 monitors is that if you spread the view across both then when you come to do aproaches the runway appears to be obscured by the central bezels (the bezels split the runway into 2). So to get round that you have to offset your Forward view to one of the monitors, which means you get an unrepresantative picture during normal flight because you get a forward +left-forward but no right-forward (or vice-versa). My advice is if you're going to use 2 screens then use the second screen purely for instruments/radios/GPS etc. Ideally if you want a panoramic view go for 3 monitors.RegardsJim
July 28, 200718 yr Jim- 2 views is better than one! In fact I did exactly this last winter for a while until I had some money to buy a replacement LCD for a VERY old CRT! Worked just fine with Views Fwd & RFwd -no runway splitting. ( Right hand circuits preferred however!) But 3 is MUCH better than 2!(with a bit of colour balancing LCDs match very nicely with CRTs)Alex Reid
July 29, 200718 yr Jim- 2 views is better than one! AlexThis is very subjective..depends what kind of flying you do. Most flying I do in the Sim is to practice instrument procedures where I use no outside views at all and fly entirely on instruments and stopwatches. So in my case 2 screens of instruments is better. Our posts are very similar in that we both agree that you need to have one of your monitors designated as the Forward view rather than splitting the forward view across 2 monitors. One thing is for sure..you can't have too many monitors!!RegardsJim
July 29, 200718 yr I like the second monitor for the FMC, throttle quad, ATC chat box etc. I have a 24" flat and still its cluttered with the stuff above. I need to set up a sscond monitor. Paul Gugliotta
July 29, 200718 yr Jim- Sounds like CAT III approaches! I'm with you - amazing the FPS boost you get when you set Visibility to 1/2 or 1/4 mile! But I still like to see some tarmac markings on L/R views when clearing the runway. You don't by any chance have a FOLLOW ME van do you? By the way, DreamFleet Baron 58 has neat enlarged, very clear popup instruments- ideal for this kind of risky behaviour!!Cheers Alex Reid CYYJ
