nVidia 8900 series?? Fact or fiction?

Featured Replies

It's been since November 2006 since the 8800 was released. I am wondering if an "8900" series of gpu's will come out soon. Anyone hear anything?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Well after reading Phil's post regarding DX10.1 maybe they will be out soon....I thought something was said about the current DX10 cards not being able to produce some of the extra features that will be present in FSX SP2... because they don't have the stuff to run the DX10.1 or something like that

But I think Phil T said that SP2 will NOT be using DX10.1 features. It will simply be using DX10.0 features. Isn't that how you read it?I don't think DX10.0 vs DX10.1 is a big deal anyway. I have seen amazing graphics done with DX9, let alone DX10.My prediction is that by the time all DX10 features are added into FSX, the new API will give about the same performance as DX9 did. But with slightly better visuals. Heck if we get alpha fade (on the autogen) that would be a major step back up in immersion if you ask me.Hope I am wrong and I hope we get a performance bump too.Re: 8900 card. I kind of expect new h/w after 10 months of time has passed. :) RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I'm not sure how I read it haha...I thought I read it, but heres the quote maybe he meant that they didnt have the hardware to develop those extra features."To get access to the 10.1 features ( which iirc is either finer-grained scheduling/interruptability and lower level virtual paging control for virtual texturing or both ) you will need 10.1 hw."whoops my bad ;)anyway, while on newegg this evening I saw some guy reviewing his newly purchased 8600 and talking about waiting for the 8900....so it's out there...somewhere muwhahahanot sure how valid this one ishttp://www.theinq.com/default.aspx?article=37655

The 8800 and DX10 are already a handful with driver issues and so fouth so I doubt a 8900 will be coming out anytime soon and even if it does I doubt most owners of the 8800 cards will be jumping ship.

I thought the next major new GPU card from Nvidea was the 9800 series due out early next year, but I could be wrong ... read it somewhere but cant remember.

...so I wonder if nVidia would REALLY use the "9800" moniker for a new card.
