August 28, 200718 yr Any problems going with 64 bit Vista instead of 32 bit - drivers, compatibility etc.? Haven't given it any thought before, but it is an option on a new machine I am looking at.--Bryn
August 28, 200718 yr Very good question. I am subscribing.I would think that if I had 4 gb of ram, I would want 64-bit...since 32-bit can't use all 4 gigs anyway. Is this correct thinking?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 29, 200718 yr Yep, just make fsx able to use more than 2gb of ram use cff explorer. Browse to the fsx.exe and go to ntheaders, then click click here, then check the box app can handle >2gb of ram.
August 29, 200718 yr Author Been thinking a bit more about possible problem areas:- GoFlight setup software- HP printer - oh well, they are very cheap nowadays.- CH setup software- Matrox TH2GO setup software- Track IRI haven't fully researched these yet, but whatever the suppliers say, it would be encouraging if someone here could confirm they have GoFlight and CH and the other systems running with Vista 64.--Bryn
August 30, 200718 yr Trackir4 works fine, and my ch yoke also works fine, havent installed the ch software though.

Unless you have 64 bit apps, I cant see a reason for Vista 64, and you can count on one hand popular 64 bit apps...maybe you dont even need a hand ;) Processor: Intel Core i7 [email protected] Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX670 OC RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3-1866 [9-9-9-24-2T] Motherboard: Asus P8Z68 Pro / Gen 3 Best Ever FSX Tip: Adaptive Vertical Sync 1/2 Refresh Rate
August 30, 200718 yr I have Windows Vista 64 Ultimate, something which has not caused a problem to me but could be for someone else is that Vista 64 will not let you install unsigned drivers, though apparently there is a third party programme that will get around this restriction. QuoteAdditionally, Windows Vista x64 versions require that all drivers be digitally signed by the developer. If you've ever installed a driver in Windows XP, you'll likely be familiar with the unsigned driver dialog, which offers a "Continue Anyway" option when a setup application attempts to load an unsigned driver. In the x64 versions of Windows Vista, this will not be possible. Microsoft says that it is requiring signed drivers so that it can ensure that drivers are of the highest possible quality; poorly-written drivers are, today, still the leading causes of blue screens and other system instability issues.UnQuotehttp://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_ff_x64.aspAnother issue is that whilst most 32 bit applications will run quite happily on Windows Vista 64, 16 bit applications will not run at all.Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
August 30, 200718 yr I use vista 64 ultimate and I can install unsigned drivers, But i have uac and windows firewall turned off so maybe thats what it is. get the 64 bit edition, its more future proof and can see more than 3.25 gb of ram.
August 30, 200718 yr I would have thought the baring of un-signed drivers was done at more basic level that UAC control, are you sure?Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer
August 30, 200718 yr There is a way to turn off the driver signing within Vista 64-bit, but it entails putting the software into a testing mode.
