September 21, 200718 yr Does XP detect most common SCSI adapters on install?Or do I need to prepare a 3.5" floppy with the driver on it like we used to do in the old days?I have a rig with an Adaptec 2940U2W (a pretty common SCSI-2 card) and I'd hate to reformat it and then not be able to install XP on it...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
September 21, 200718 yr Hi Rhett,I've been using SCSI systems ever since the ATARI days way way back. I continued using SCSI on the PC with practically all my systems. Right now, I am still using SCSI on one of my systems "Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 - Ultra160".In my experience, for the most part in the past and the present. Detection of the SCSI card was practically instantaneous, did NOT have to resort to a floppy. I also have another old system that is using the Adaptec 2940.Let me know how it goes.Abe

September 22, 200718 yr Hey Abe is there any reason I should upgrade my old LSI 531010 adaptor? I am running 4 Cheetah 15K.x drives and I know they are U320 capable but my controller is U160 i'm pretty sure. Prolly doesn't make much diff in my system (ie for my needs) but not sure . . .Noel Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. September 22, 200718 yr Sorry Noel, I am not terribly familiar with the LSI 531010. I own a couple of "Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 - Ultra160 SCSI" cards, and I had nothing but good experience with them through the years. Adaptec has been my preference all along, and I was never disappointed.Abe
September 22, 200718 yr I guess a better way to ask this is: Is there a reason I should be operating at U320 v U160 in a typical desktop/gaming rig? I notice on LSI dual channel U320 adaptors it says you need to put the controller card into a 64-bit slot to get 64-bit transfers. Do common newer desktop mainboards have 64-bit PCI slots? Is PCIe 64-bit? September 22, 200718 yr Noel, the short answer is I do not know. I've yet to venture into 64-bit territory.Abe
