Two Graphics Cards on ASRock 4CoreDual-Sata2

Featured Replies

Hello, does anybody here know (or have heard about) if it is possible to run two graphics cards (non-SLI of course) at the same time on the ASRock-4CoreDual-Sata2?I have one Sapphire AGP X1950 Pro 512Mb and I am curious to know if I could add a second PCIe version of the same card in such a motherboard.Should I expect lots of compatibility problems? Or severe bottlenecking on the PCIe X4 slot? Thanks in advance for you answers & Best regardsRicardo.

I think this board is aimed at the person who want to upgrade to Core2Duo on a budget and bring their DDR and AGP legacy items with them. People can then upgrade to DDR2 and PCIe when they're ready. I'm not sure it's the board to go for if you want to drive 3 or more monitors or that it is intended to mix the technologies. I've not read any articles or reviews where both types of Graphics cards have been run simultaneously. My suspicion is that you will be able to run 2 graphics cards for FS9 quite successfully but FSX will struggle...however, I have no emperical evidence to back this up.RegardsJim

Ho Jim I will stick to FS2004, and I want to keep all my old stuf (AGP X1950 Pro + DDR400 Memory + PSU). I just want to add another PCIe graphic card.I suppose that is not possible. I have seen nothing about that in any forum/article/review up to now.Anyway, let us wait for more posts here to see if somebody else has seen it.

Are you in a position to borrow a PCIe card from a friend to see if the 2 will work together? Alternatively fire off an e-mail to ASROCK asking if it is possible to run both the AGP and PCIe concurrently.RegardsJim

Hi JimI contacted ASRock about that, still waiting for the anwer. I actually do not own an ASRock 4CoreDual yet, I am planning to buy one, provided I could run it with this dual cards.I will report back here on the feedback from ASRock, if I ever get any.RegardsRicardo.

helloyes it can run two cards togetherTaken from the manual Surround Display FeatureThanks to ASRock patented PCI Express Graphics Technology, this motherboardsupports Surround Display upgrade. With the external add-on AGP VGA card andPCI Express VGA card, you can easily enjoy the benefits of Surround Displayfeature. For the detailed instruction, please refer to the document at the followingpath in the Support CD: .. Surround Display Information

mad dogthanks for the info. I will give a try on this MoBo anyway. I have to run three monitors out of it. I will try to borrow a PCIe for testing, and in case it does not work, I can always go for a Matrox. Is it possible with a dual head ATI X1950 Pro, run three independent monitors, by adding Matrox DualHead2Go to one of the outputs of the gfx card, and run the third monitor from the other output of the gfx card?RegardsRicardo.

Yes. You can either run the 3 monitors independently or you can span one image across the 2 Matrox connected cards and have the 3rd independent.http://hometown.aol.co.uk/JimCooper1/monitors-3.JPGRegardsJim

Jim, are you experiencing any kind of problems/imcompatibilties between the Matrox and the ATI card?I read everywhere that ATI GPUs can be a no-go with these Matrox cards(sure for the TripleHead2Go because of lower resolutions supported) because of compatibility issues and other minor problems.I would like to run all three monitors showing only 3D external views, 2 via the Matrox and the third via the second output of the gfx card. Would that be a problem with ATI cards? Do ATI cards fully support 3D rendering on 2560x1024Too many questions! :DBasically I have to decide between:- using two gfx cards (1 AGP and 1 PCIe) on the ASRock 4CoreDualor - DualHead2Go + second output of gfx carf for three external 3D viewBoth choices seems to me a little bit tricky up to now. Thanks for you help & Best RegardsRicardo.

There may be issues with ATI and Matrox..so to be safe go for the second card now that you know the board supports it. I'd also advise getting a second X1950 to avoid driver conflicts. You'll also have the option to add a 4th monitor!Jim

Just got feedback from ASRock support team saying that yes, it is possible to run AGP and PCIe cards concurrently for what they call surround display, as stated by mad dog some posts above.Whether it will run well, with two demanding cards, it is another story. Only the real test will show.

I had an Asrock DualSata2 AMD version, and ran an ATI X800XL AGP and an ATI X1900XTX PCie, two fairly decent cards with no problems whatsoever. The Asrock boards are pretty decent considering they are classed as bargain boards. They really are a bargain with good bang for the buck.Unless things have changed with the Intel Asrock boards, and I don't think they have, you shouldnt have any problems.Bill
