2nd sound card Vista problem

I installed a Diamond Extreme 7.1 in my system alongside the onboard audio. XP recognizes it fine and in FSX I am able to split the ATC to headphones connected to the 7.1 and all other sounds tyhru the speakers. Running under Vista Home Premium - Vista recognizes and installs the sound card and uses it just fine except when I run FSX I can not get the ATC to play thru the headset - it comes thru the speakers and sounds like it's in an echo chamber.Only thing I could find in a serach was dated 3/07 and basically said that you could NOT split the output in FSX under Vista.Anyone been successful?Thanx,VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.6Evga 680i A1 with P30 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

Hello Vic, I have a dual soundcard setup and am running Vista 32. The only difference is that I am using VoxAtc X. All of the VoxAtc comms come through my headset and the rest of the sounds come through my speakers and sub. Did you go into your control panel and setup your text to speech advanced options? Make sure you select the output that is connected to your headphones for this. Hope this helps.Steve

Hi Steve - Thanx for the info. I've found out that SP2 fixes the issue so I'll just hang in there for another week.VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.6Evga 680i A1 with P30 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/

Vic, Just finished a new build and have yet to add a sound card. I'm using XP Pro and contemplating the purchase of VOX ATC. How does one split the sound output between onboard and PCI Sound? Craig

Vic, what driver did you use for Vista, the one from Diamond?(absolutely horrible driver support, BTW) I have been using one from Auzentech in XP as their sound chipset is the same for the Diamond Xtreme and they always have updated drivers.Regards, Kendall#1: E6750 2.66/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 2GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 Seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATA2 Gigabyte X800XT -Cat 6.12's CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's

I did not use Diamond's supplied drivers for either XP or Vista. I allowed the OS to auto locate and install from the web.I was concerned that Diamond might conflict with the onboard sound. Too many times I've seen manufacturer's assume they are the only game in town and screw up something else. Figured that Windows would pick something basic and compatible. Also, as far as the headset voice is concerned, I'm not really concerned with 7.1 surround sound. :)As far as splitting the sound in XP - In Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices - select Audio and then Voice and select the proper device under "default device" in each. Then in FSX - settings/sounds there's another option to map to the respective devices. That was it.Now, FSX ATC or Rober Wilco comes thru the headset and the engines, etc come thru the speakers.HTH,VicQ6600 G0 CPU 2.4 o/c 3.6Evga 680i A1 with P30 BIOS 2G XP2-8500 DDR2 1066FSB Mushkin 996535 RAM 5-5-4-12-2T320G 7200 HD partitioned for XP/Vista/Programs 2 - 74G Raptors in RAID0 500G 7200 HD for backup SATA DVD burner Evga 8800GTS 640 PCIx Kandalf LCS case w/ built in liquid cooling 850W Thermaltake power supplyVisit the Virtual Pilot's Centerwww.flightadventures.comRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/
