Where other than NewEgg do you buy?

Featured Replies

I've been buying most of my gear from NewEgg for about five years. Are there other vendors in North America that I should be checking?

Whilst the Egg is good, they are not always the best deal, especially when having to factor in CA state sales tax and shipping. I also buy from mWave (better prices sometimes), Amazon (good prices, no tax, mostly free shipping), Buy.com (good prices, no tax, free shipping), and zipzoomfly (better prices sometimes).Gary

And I'll throw Clubit into the mix - one of the 'eggs biggest competitors. I have purchased from them several times as they have good prices and have provided reliable service.Regards, Kendall#1: [email protected]/Coolermaster HyperTX2 Gigabyte P35-DS3L 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers PC6400 Seagate 250GB 7200.10 SATA2 Gigabyte X800XT -Cat 6.12's CH Yoke/Pedals/Saitek Throttle Dual Monitor: Dell 2405/1905 #2: Dell 8400 3.2 H.T. 3GB PC4200 Diamond Xtreme/Logitech X-530's

I agree with the recommendations of the previous posters, but I'd like to add a few additional suggestions: 1. Sign up for the promotional e-mails from Newegg, ZipZoomFly, ClubIT, buy.com, and Outpost.com (which is Fry's Electronics). Some of these vendors offer terrific deals that are only available to subscribers. (I set up a separate Gmail address so the ads wouldn't clog my main email box, but I really don't get that many ads.) Many people don't care for the hassle of Mail-In-Rebates, but ClubIT (and others) post some incredible deals in which the item is actually FREE after rebates. These have worked well for me, but some deals are limited to US purchasers only. Be sure to read any rebate forms carefully BEFORE you buy! 2. Check a comparative-pricing site like pricegrabber.com or froogle.com before you make a final decision. At the very least it will tell you whether you're getting a good deal or not. These sites have also been helpful to me in finding lesser-known vendors such as monoprice.com, jab-tech.com, and frozencpu.com which offer excellent pricing and service on items such as cables, coolers, fans, and various other peripherals. I would never have found these vendors without the help of a comparative-pricing site. 3. If you just like searching for good deals in general, there are some dedicated sites (gotapex.com) and forums (HotDEALS on the hardocp forums) that specialize in tipoffs to the best deals. It seems to me that some manufacturers use these sites to move merchandise at low prices. Newegg even has a representative on the HotDEALS forum who will sometimes post a great deal, or match a competitor's price, in response to requests from forum users. (The direct link to the HotDEALS forum is: http://www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28) A lot depends on whether you're looking for the best price on a particular item, or whether you're a shop-a-holic who likes finding good deals in general. For some people, finding deals is a hobby unto itself. For others, saving a few dollars just isn't worth the hassle. It's really a matter of your own personal preferences. Hope this helps.... - Lee

5 years? I didn't know the 'egg had been around that long. I guess I was out of the loop in 2002-03 eh.I have also used ZipZoomFly, CDW, TigerDirect. CDW is for company stuff though, not home systems.Back when I was system building I had a special place called Paragon Technology, which is now gone, gone with the wind...RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian
