Odd issue as of late in FSX........Pleas help if you can....

Not sure where to post this, and this seemd to be the best place:Lately I have been 'losing' my keyboard in FSX. The 'fix' is to do a 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete to take me to the desk-top, then re-enter (restore from task bar) FS, and the keyboard works again.I also went as far as doing a 'restore' re-install for XP (Media Edition), which did not solve the issue either.I had blamed my wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard, so removed them, and replaced with a corded keyboard and a Microsoft Wireless mouse, but the issue remains.Any idea's on this?Does this have anything to do with the Sim Connect system?

First question:Do you have loss-of-keyb issues in any other application? Or is it just with FSX?Second q:Are you oveclocking?Third q:How old is your motherboard and how old is your power supply? >First question:>>Do you have loss-of-keyb issues in any other application? Or>is it just with FSX?I believe it is only with FS, has never happened when using other app's, or using Windows itself. For the most part, I only use this machine for FS, some photoshop work, and occasionally the internet.>Second q:>>Are you oveclocking? Not the motherboard, but yes to to video card (X1900XT) via ATI Tray Tools.>>Third q:>>How old is your motherboard and how old is your power supply? >Any known problems with either? What model and type of>motherboard and power supply?>>RhettMy base computer is a Dell 410XPS, which I bought reconditioned, so I would say maybe a year/year and a half?the motherboard is a 'Dell', 0WG855 with the Intel P965/G965 chipset. the BIOS is up-to-date and the latest Dell offers. The Dell power supply was swapped out with the Rosewill RT550-135-SL 550W, ATX12V v2.2,12V Combined Output 30A (Selected per the recommendation by other Dell users). I bought the PSU this past spring immediately after buying the new 'box'.I do have another unusual (nagging) issue in that when I first boot up WinXP, the video does not turn on, and I have to let it cycle up, then reboot, and the video comes on and works fine, even when re-booting. Not sure if these issues are related or not. But I have wondered if the PSU unit may be at fault. Thanks Rhett.

BrianYou may have a corrupted standard.xml file which designates the keyboard and its controls. Unfortunately I don't know how to repair or rebuild the standard.xml (the one in the same directory as FSX.cfg). If the keyboard is seen by Windows it should be seen by FSX. I guess that you removed (after backing up) the FSX.cfg file and let FSX rebuild a new one to see if that made any difference. I had issues with the Logitech drivers conflicting with the MS Intellipoint/type drivers, but that seems to have been fixed now with the latest Logitech drivers.Peter Hayes

Ah ha.....thanks Peter, you may have stumbled across a good possibility.I backed up the standard.xml, and started up FS without one. It simply rebuilt one with the default FS assignment mapping. I'll reassign all my keystrokes, yoke buttons, etc. and see if this solves the issue. In addition, I realized I have quite a few FSX.cfg backups in the same folder as the FSX.cfg as well, and wonder if perhaps that was confusing things as well, (even though I had changed the file 'name', typically 'FSX.cfg.11_23_07', or whatever the date was). I created a new folder, and put all my back-ups there.Hopefully it was this simple.

>>Hopefully it was this simple.Yes hopefully it will be this simple. Peter has pointed you toward the cfg/software side and I posted about the hardware side. So hopefully between the two the solution will be found.I would try the rebuilt standard.xml first. Then post back if you are still losing the keyboard.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

I really appreciate it Rhett....Thus far, I have flown two flights without an additional occurrence.I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hopefully that has fixed it. One time, I had a keyboard go out on me. It would only go out in heat situations (always in FS) and at those times, it hard-locked my system--reset button needed to re-boot.Funny thing is, I never spilled any soda, coffee, water, etc. on it. :)It was a nice keyboard--a Focus 2000. I wore it out with my heavy typing I suppose.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Actually it happened again last night Rhett, but only a couple times.I'm thinking it may have something to do with a program I use called 'Flight Assistant', which is a freeware program that ties voice recognition to my FS keyboard commands. The loss of 'connection' would happen sometimes in FS9, but nothing like it has in FSX (it is not specifically made for either version, but sells itself as an 'across the platform' and program software). Thus, I am thinking it may have something to do with that program and the utilization of the XML control files vs a 'regular ol' .ini or .cfg file in FSX. But again, it didn't do this to this frequency after initially installing FSX.Couple hardware changes I will be making soon.....I just purchased a 'pulled' Core 2 Duo 6700 to replace my 6400. And I also just purchased an 8800GT video card to replace my X1900XT w/Zalman cooler. The video card may take less recourses than the X1900XT...but not positive. I have not received either of these yet, but should have them installed within a week or two.If it is a PSU issue, perhaps it is disconnecting the least powerful piece of hardware first? Not sure that makes sense, but I'm no hardware guru, as the mouse never has this problem, nor is this issue happening outside FS. I tested the video card with ATI Tray Tools (for heat/artifacts) yesterday for quite some time (over 20 minutes) and did not get one artifact or heat issue 'popping up'. If there was something wrong there, I should have seen something within a couple minutes....I would think...

Hm that's interesting. If it were me I would disable (or even uninstall...) that "Flight Assistant" program and see if the behavior continues. At least then you can absolutely rule that out as the cause.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian
